METAL FOR MUTTS - SAVING PAWS ONE SCRAP AT A TIME!

IMPORTANT NEW INFORMATION... We have to put a temporary hold on picking up items from individuals. Unfortunately, due to medical issues and the extreme drop in the price of metal, it is no longer feasible to continue at this time. Do we want to continue? Yes we do! Hopefully we can pick back up where we left off after the economy gets rolling. We want to thank everyone who has donated. We have met a ton of wonderful, giving people. PLEASE continue to recycle. Take care of your animals. AND SUPPORT THE CBHS!

Please feel confident & comfortable when donating to us! You may contact Theresa Clifton (321) 636-3343 ext. 204, or
tclifton1@cfl.rr.com. Theresa at the Central Brevard Humane Society will verify that we do in fact give them money!! We are trying to make ends meet like everyone else...but we give as much as possible to help our animal friends. The amount depends on you! We are just starting up, so the more you can DIG up, the better! Your metal = money for homeless animals!

Getting a new A/C unit this summer? PLEASE save us your old one! The a/c company will be happy to be helpful, and take it off your hands. We would be happier! A/C units are a great thing to find because they contain aluminum, copper, and steel. By watching the media, you must think that they are worth a fortune! Not really, it takes a lot of scrap to make a fortune, it just adds up faster when you have all the commodities!

HOW METAL FOR MUTTS WORKS:

It's simple! No work for you, we do it all! You call or e-mail us to set up a time, and day for pick up. You DO NOT have to be home. Items may be placed in a location such as the front of the garage, side of the house, or if the dog/cat will let us in, we can do that too. Please do not place it by the road, or end of drive way. If people are stealing new a/c units from businesses for copper, YES, THEY WILL TAKE WHATEVER YOU PUT BY THE ROAD BEFORE WE GET THERE! That equals no dog food money :( . Kirby likes to eat, but he doesn't steal.

If you want to be home, or can not move the item, we will lift/roll/strain to pick it up it for you! The only catch is we really can not maneuver items through your home. We do not want to scratch walls, hurt ourselves, or run over the cat's tail. We pick up from residences or business locations. PLEASE, WE NEED BUSINESSES INVOLVED TOO!! We will add you to our web site! Free advertising, and our eternal gratitude!! Your donations may also be tax deductible-some rules apply. Hey, talk to Uncle Sam, Kirby's trying to get dogs and cats named as dependents!

We will schedule the pick up ASAP. In many cases, we are able to do it the same day. There are some exceptions. If you live in North Brevard, we have to try to schedule several in a day due to our lovely gas prices. If you really need it gone NOW, we will do our best! We will NEVER not show up. In the event that something happens (Bella has been instructed to dial 911), we will call and let you know. If Bella fails to dial 911, please do so for us. After all, how reliable is a dog that walks around with pancake batter on her nose!!

Once we pick up your item, we will do a CAT scan and some LAB work to determine what kind of metal it contains. Hee hee... Just a little laboratory/animal humor... Seriously, we will check it out to see if it is useable, should be fixed (in which case it will go to a Molly Mutt Thrift Shop), or what we can break it down into. We then either fix it, take it apart, or give it to Sammy to gnaw on. (Just kidding although I think they would enjoy it. No Kong is tough enough for this house)! Taking it apart literally means taking it down one screw at a time. We remove the wiring, aluminum, copper, anything that is more valuable than the steel itself. All components are separated, and eventually hauled off to the recycle yard. The metal is then crushed and sent to various exotic locations to be reborn!

It's not easy folks. It is hard, physical work with small monetary reward. Take a trip to our local "dumps" as they are so rightfully named. It is disturbing, and will jolt you into the reality of waste like a double shot of espresso. Our big compensation is knowing that just maybe one more dog, cat, rabbit, lizard, bird, or other critter will sleep in someone's bed instead of Animal Heaven tonight. One visit to the Humane Society will refuel our weary bodies.

Tara works nights (full-time) at the hospital, and Michael works full-time on numerous other projects. Unfortunately, this is not our only jobs, but we feel it is our calling. So, there are days that we may be tired, busy, called into "reality", or indisposed. We try to make this a top priority, and take it very seriously. So, please search your closets, garages, back yards, and hearts for things you no longer want or need.

LOOK AROUND YOU!

Aside from Tippy's nose, almost everything that I touch, and that is within my sight, has metal on or in it! Even the tiniest circuit in your cell phone! If you really think about it, we DON'T think about it! We take poor Mr. Metal for granted. Almost anything can be recycled. We just concentrate on the metal, be it big or small. If it has ANY metal, we can use it. Painted, plain, with plastic, with material, with rubber, ETC! If in doubt, just ask! If it doesn't have metal, please recycle it anyway! We're not biased when it comes to recycling! Don't just throw it away, USE YOUR IMAGINATION! Someone has a use for it. Take that minute to think. Little things may make someone SO GRATEFUL.

REMEMBER OUR MOTTO. HELP US RESCUE CRITTERS. RECYCLE. SMILE.

BACKGROUND:

Metal for Mutts was started in January 2008 by Tara and Michael, with the help of their five mutts, and one mutt-like cat. Many factors brought this idea to muttdom. Tara tends to have obscure thoughts in the middle of the night when she can't sleep, or is at work!

The story begins with a dishwasher, a few animals, and our love of the environment. The notorious dishwasher sat in front of our house for approximately five weeks. Several phone calls, and a very angry husband later, I saw a need; a RELIABLE someone to pick up large items. The company in charge of WASTE pick up, and MANAGEMENT (who shall remain nameless) was taking forever. Who wants an ugly appliance sitting in front of their home?! I also saw ads in misc. papers, and called the numbers for various other pick ups. They were either no shows, didn't call back, or were so scary that I didn't want them to come to our house! Hmmm... where I'm going with this...

So, there's a need for this trash/metal/unwanted stuff to be picked up! There's also a HUGE need to help our furry friends. More still, a GIANT need to RECYCLE and stop the craziness of our throw-away selves. The landfills aren't going to last forever. Our passions drove us to begin Metal For Mutts.

The result: two people who love animals, want to do their part, and provide a much needed service. We pick up your unwanted metal, recycle it, and make donations to the Central Brevard Humane Society. We do keep some of the money for ourselves, as our six have to eat too. Kirby is willing to share, but he has to draw the line somewhere.
