Sharon's Our Guest Sharon Henderson, International Second Vice President, will join us as the international representative at the Zeta State Convention April 15-17, 2005. A former English teacher and Media Specialist for 37 years, Sharon received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Indiana State Teachersı Association in May 2001. The May of 2003, she received an award from the Indiana Retired Teachers Association as one of its thirteen members with the most volunteer hours in community service. She earned an AB from DePauw University, MAT from Indiana University, and a Gifted/Talented endorsement from Purdue University. Sharon has been actively involved in Delta Kappa Gamma since she was initiated in 1970. She chaired committees and held numerous offices in her chapter and state organization, including Indiana State President. Sharon participated in the Golden Gift Leadership/Management Seminar at Baylor in 1982 and has chaired the International Professional Affairs, Constitution, and U.S Forum committees. She was on the Steering Committee for the 1986 International Convention and Registrar for 1999 NE Regional Conference, both in Indianapolis. During the 2002-2004 biennium, she served as Northeast Regional Director. In addition to her Delta Kappa Gamma background, her experience in the Indiana State Teachers Association both while actively teaching and after retirement, participation as past chapter president in Phi Delta Kappa, coordination of a $300,000 Technology grant, and involvement in church activities supplement her broad knowledge base. Sharon has much to share with members. Further, she is optimistic, realistic, caring, and enthusiastic; she is a gifted and dynamic presenter. Sharonıs son, his wife, and her "two most wonderful" granddaughters live near enough to visit and read together. Her hobby passion, stitchery, includes everything from counted cross-stitch to pulled thread embroidery to hardanger. Each year she makes each of the girls a hardanger Christmas angel; her hope is that someday they will be able to decorate their own trees with Mimiıs angels. Working with people, however, is Sharonıs joy; she says that working with other Delta Kappa Gamma members to accomplish our shared goals is exciting; it recharges her batteries. She feels that her opportunity to meet and learn to know so many outstanding women throughout the Society is one of lifeıs blessings. |
