We feel the Eisenia hortensis, commonly called the European nightcrawler, is one of the premier fishing worms on the market today, as well as a compost worm extraordinaire. As a fisherman I prefer this worm to any other cultured worm because it's very tough hided and long lived on the hook. I really like the fact you don't need to break this worm off on the hook due to size, which maintains the maximum wiggle! I've caught Bass, Catfish, Bluegill, Trout, Sauger, Carp, Red horse and Yellow suckers, goggle eye and Buffalo on these worms in colder as well as warmer waters.
Bob Bright of St.Louis went Walleye fishing in Minnesota last year and caught more bigger fish than his guide over several days on some of the Trinity worms. The guide used the local reccommended bait.. Clyde Nebb in Michigan, an avid trot line fisherman, when desiring smaller catfish, uses number 2 hooks and our Encs...he slays em! Says these worms are so tough hided, he'll sometimes find an empty hook with nothing left but the worm's skin on it. They're used for ice fishing and in some of the brackish waters on the coast with success. An older gentleman was rigging them up on a Texas Rig, like a plastic worm,and does extremley well on bass.
