BROOKLYN MI (8-17-06) - Brent Sherman posted the quickest lap around Michigan International Speedway Thursday afternoon, earning his second career Pork Pole award in the ARCA RE/MAX Series with a speed of 184.601 mph. As a result, Sherman will start on the pole for Fridays Hantz Group 200 in his No. 04 Serta Mattress Ford.

Sherman was especially complimentary towards his crew during Pork Pole award ceremonies.

I have all the same guys I had two years ago, said Sherman, who returned to the ARCA RE/MAX Series this year after competing in the NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Nextel Cup Series in 2005 and for much of 2006.

Sherman, in the Serta Mattress-Adobe Ford, led the first four laps and the last five laps surviving an action-packed Hantz Group 200 at Michigan International Speedway Friday afternoon, earning his career-first victory.

The Barrington, Illinois driver also survived a few gremlins of his own.

We have had some unfortunate problems the last few weeks and had a spark plug come loose today, said Sherman, who made two unscheduled pit stops to correct the problem.

I just put my head down and drove hard because I did not have much for the two guys in front of me."

"They got into each other and I was able to get around them. Im really proud of my guys, they did a great job of getting us to where we need to be."

The race was lengthened by five laps to accommodate a green flag finish after Frank Kimmel and TJ Bell, racing for the lead, tangled together in turn four on what was supposed to be the final lap of the 100-lap, 200-mile race.
