Well, we are on our way home now. After driving 10,000 miles, we are now in Wyoming and will be home before some of you even read this. As I update this web site I'm watching the devastation from Hurricane Karina and wonder if I should even send out these pictures. But I finally decided that pictures of our beautiful world are even more meaningful in the midst of such devastation. So here are some pictures from the last "layover" on our journey. Thanks to all of you who were interested, some who we don't even know well. It's very flattering to think that you were interested in our travels this summer. I guess we will keep the website online, so if you know anyone going to Alaska, maybe they will be interested. The DVD of our trip will be on sale for $10.95 plus tax (with an airline discount, naturally).... only kidding!
They call this the most photographed barn in America. It's part of a farm from the 1800's on Grand Teton National Park.
The mountains are the thing here so naturally they provide the backdrop for all my pictures. I call this one "Thistles and the Tetons" which I thought was terribly original.
You've probably noticed how I love those "clear mountain lakes with rocks" pictures. I just can't help myself.... A view of Grand Teton from one of our hikes I made this picture the largest because I got up so frigging early to take it. It's sunrise over the Tetons taken from the back of Jackson Lodge. An interesting sidenote is that Alan Greenspan and all the most influential economists in the world were here at the Lodge at the same time. We didn't get a "Greenspan" sighting, but that doesn't stop me from namedropping. Enter subhead content here And finally, since if you are viewing this website, you now officially know someone who travels in an RV. (I know that for some of you, that seems impossible.) So in the interest of broadening your education, I'm offering a few terms common to the RV community in case you cross paths with any of us in the future. 1. NICE RIG!! This is the ultimate compliment, meaning that they think your RV is attractive. 2. BOONDOCKING -- this refers to camping without electric, sewer or water and just using the tanks on your "rig". This is free and preferably done in a Walmart parking lot. Walmart encourages this, knowing that RV'ers love to shop in Walmarts. 3. FULL-TIMERS -- This refers to people who have sold their houses and live full time in RV's. If you ever hear me refer to myself as a "full-timer", you have permission to just shoot me. 4. Toad-- this refers to your towed vehicle. Clever, I thought. 5. And finally, the most asked question from non RV-ers, "How much does it cost to fill this puppy up?"-- Answer-- 150 gallons at $2.50-$3.00 per gallon. You do the math. Love, Ron and Lana |
