(The 2004 re-enactment of the Siege of Fort Randolph was successfully presented, and attended, despite a fourth consecutive year of rain. The years of 1777 and 1977 are bridged to the tune of 'It Never Rains in Southern California' for our reflection and amusement. -- Dianne & Doug)

THE BALLAD OF FORT RANDOLPH

Got on board a southbound flatboat, in the Bloody 7s.
Didn't think before deciding what to do.
All that talk about the big game, fertile fields and freedom, rang true. Sure rang true.

Seems it never rains in western-most Virginia.
Fort Randolph's heard that kind of talk before.
It never rains here in Virginia, but boy, don't let them kid ya', it pours -- MAN! IT POURS!

Out of powder; I'm out of lead. Out of jerk meat; I'm out of bread,
I'm overworked; I'm underfed. I WANNA GO HOME!
It never rains here in Virginia, but boy, don't let them kid ya', it pours -- MAN! IT POURS!

Will you tell the folks back home I nearly made it?
Built my first cabin -- the Indians burnt today.
PLEASE, dont tell em how you found me, don't tell em how you found me
Tied to a stake. Tied to a stake!

Seems it never rains in western-most Virginia.
Fort Randolph's heard that kind of talk before.
It never rains here in Virginia, but boy, don't let them kid ya', it pours -- MAN! IT POURS!
