STEPHEN ELISHA3 GOSS (JOSEPH2, STEPHENSON1) was born in November 1840, in Georgia, and
died in 1909 in Stewart County, Georgia. He married his first cousin, ELVINIE GOSS
in 1866, the daughter of ZACHARIAH GOSS and SUSANNAH SCOTT.
Stephen served as a Confederate
Soldier in Company K, 17th Georgia Infantry. While working in a foundry, he invented a
canon that was used in the war. Stephen preferred battle, however, and kept returning to
the front each time he was sent back to the foundry. He saw combat duty and on a spy
mission was hit by a bullet that severed his thumb from his right hand.
The Goss family were members of
the Primitive Baptist church. Elisha bore eleven children, but lost two daughters at birth
and a son not yet two years old. The Goss descendants remained in Webster County, Georgia,
for over a hundred years. ("History of Webster County", p261)

ZACHARIAH BENJAMIN3 GOSS II (JOSEPH2, STEPHENSON1) was born August 18, 1853 in Stewart
County, Georgia, and died c1917. He married 1) BETHEL PEALE c1870. He married 2) KAREN
DANIELS c1875. He married 3) EVA E. (or Delphia) DISMUKE c1880. He married 4) LEILA
MORGAN c1897 in Georgia.
Zack and Eva lived on a farm in
Webster County, Georgia and raised four children.
After Zack's death, Leila married William Pyles as a "mail-order bride".
