Will Chat - January 20, 2005

In lieu of the regular 'ask Will' section, I asked Will a few questions of my own last week, and below are his answers. I call this a 'mini-Will Chat'. Maybe we can talk him into having one on-line with the fan club members soon.

EVA: Your fans would be interested in any details on the filming of your upcoming appearance in the Hercules mini-series.

WILL: Despite spending 3 weeks or so in New Zealand for Hercules, it did not equate to having much screen time. The role of Theseus is small in the grand scheme of Herc; however, that being said it was a lot of fun sporting a Ceasar hair cut and having a beard and just being on location.

Part of the reason I was away for longer then I thought was that it rained almost everyday I was there, which is the worst enemy of a film set. All the cast were wonderful people, particularly Timothy Dalton who was a stand-out fella. Not much more to add. Really, I think it will be a must watch when it hits the screen.

EVA: CAP published a copy of the Fluery Catering menu on the discussion board, and several of us were wondering what your favorite selections were while on the set of The Lost World.

WILL: When I speak of Fluery Catering it is not the food that comes to mind, which by the way is excellent. It is the French owner Eric who I regarded as a close friend on set, and someone that was always meeting the demands of 100 or more different palates day in day out. If you can imagine cooking out of the back of a truck on location, trying to deliver 3 main meals a day along with 2 tea breaks for up to 150 people at time or more, not forgetting it has to be delivered hot on the table to a constantly changing schedule.

Also, throw into the mix special diets that some people have, those that can have dairy and those that can not, vegetarians etc.. Now that is one tough under appreciated job. Yep this guy handles it all with true poise day in and day out.

So what did I eat? Nothing very exciting despite the menu I'm afraid. I think I was born with taste buds that sleep. 10 weet bix for breakfast, got to have the carbs to get me through the schedule. Usually (I had) the grilled fish for lunch with veggies, and same for supper. So, that's it really. Maybe a sandwich here or there along the way with ham. I can pretty much eat the same thing day in and day out.

EVA: And, what the heck are lollies?**
WILL: Lollies are candy, have no idea where it comes from.

**Footnote: 'Lollies' were listed as a dessert selection on the Fluery menu.

The fourth set of questions Will selected to answer this month are:

1. Cathy asks: I would like to ask what kind of music you like. Can you tell me the band names of the music you like.

Will answers: Pretty much listen to anything across the board. I grew up listening to a lot of classical, because my father loved it so much. But all genres have something to offer me. Lately I've been listening to Jack Johnson, a contemporary artist. It's pretty laid back. I love Sting (and) the Aussie band Jet are great rock 'n roll. INXS is another favorite, (as well as) Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Bob Marley, Prince, George Michael, Robbie Williams, just to name a few. As you can see it's across the board.

2. Karin asks: You have lived in many different parts of the world, Australia, California, England. What kind of climate/weather do you like most, and which do you like the least?

Will answers: I really prefer the warm air, so I guess that leaves cold out of the running. However, I do love to visit cold places, just not have to live in them. I watched a show on Discovery recently which showcased the coldest inhabited settlement on earth. It has had a record low of minus 70 and a usual moderate temp is around minus 30. It's so cold, if you throw boiled water into the air it vaporizes instantly. Now this is a place you would not want to live, but strangely somewhere I would visit if I had the chance just because it is so extreme.

Here is the third set of questions Will has selected to answer this month.

1. Katie D. asks: If you were to go back to the Lost World series and the producers gave you a choice of playing somebody else besides Lord Roxton, would you choose Summerlee, Malone or Challenger and why?

Will answers: Marguerite!! Don't tell Rachel, I wouldn't want to upstage her! (That's a joke, folks.) But seriously, I believe the show was so well cast, I wouldn't want to change a thing.

2. Becker asks: If you hadn't become an actor, what would you be doing right now?

Will answers: I have no idea. If you asked me who's job I would like to have I would have to say a successful author. This is someone who works their own hours, gets paid to explore their imaginations, and who travels the world for research. Wilber Smith is one of my favorites for pure escapism. If I might suggest a good read, try "River God" by him. It is full of adventure and history, and there is a true element to this incredible story. If I was a film maker, I would make it.

Our second set of questions chosen to be answered by Mr. Snow were submitted by Karin aka Blue and Kate(1). Hope everyone enjoys the answers.

1. Karin asks: "I know the next role is always the one you love best, but what kind of character would you like to play? Villain, rogue, adventurer, funny, tragic? (And yes, my first choice for you would also be James Bond, only Eva beat me to it!)"

Will answers: "Karin, if someone said to me...'here is a 007 script or an Indiana Jones role, are you interested?'...I would fall over. I love these action adventure roles that have a strong physical component, and fast entertaining story lines."

2. Kate(1) asks: "I know you must eat healthy to stay in such good shape. But is there a favorite kind of 'junk food' that you just can't get enough of or just have to eat?"

Will answers: "Kate, I'm a big sucker for great hamburgers like the rest of the world. The more stuff you can pile on it the better!"

The first two questions on our page are from Sherri (SEC) and Lucy aka Louisiana Lady.

1. Sherri asks: "I noticed you use weapons effectively with both hands. Are you ambidextrous or did the occasion (in the filming of the scene) call for you to use your left hand?"

Will answers: "Unfortunately no, I'm not ambidextrous. Fortunately however, when I did frequently drop things from my left hand, I was always granted another take from the director so that I looked co-ordinated on the screen. It's all about smoke and mirrors."

2. Lucy asks: "Do you have a middle initial (or name)...or maybe a first name before William?"

Will answers: "My middle initial is R for Roger."

Well, there you have it Will Snow fans....this was just the first installment in the Ask Will page. Watch for updates in the coming weeks.
