Our Conductors Janice R. (Jan) Cox, Conductor Although born in the scenic village of Stonington, Jan's early years were spent in Baltimore, MD, and Jackson Heights, NY, after which she returned to Maine for her third grade year. After graduation from Stonington HS, Jan attended the Northern Conservatory of Music (now the Isaac Farrar Mansion) and taught one year in the Bangor elementary schools. After her marriage to David Cox, 3 years were spent teaching in Portland area schools while David attended law school. Upon their return to Brewer, Jan had a 22 year career in the local school system where her teaching experiences included classroom music, chorus, and accompianist for the middle school chorus. Since retiring from teaching, Jan keeps busy with Hometown Band business, Garden Club, DKG, golf, camp, crafts, family, and one beloved grandchild, D.J. Beth Zdrojowy, Assistant Conductor Born and raised in Bucksport, Maine, Beth now finds herself settling down to raise her family in her hometown. Upon graduation from Bucksport HS, Beth owned, managed, and baked for seven years in her Flour Barrel Bakery in the center of town. Growing weary of working nights, she entered the University of Maine (Orono) as a Music Education major. 1994 was a busy year for Beth as she graduated from UMO, got married, and gave birth to her son, Joey. For the past several years, Beth has taught classroom music, band, chorus, and many private instrumental lessons in several public and private schools close to home. In her leisure time, you can find Beth gardening, camping, sewing playing trombone in the Brewer Hometown Band, and enjoying her family (which now includes daughter Jenny.)
