Looking backward...

History of My Hobby

Gourds have been grown all over the world, and used for hundreds of years as tools for the home. As a means to carry water or food stuffs the humble gourd has had many uses.

My Gourd Crafting History

02.jpg

My first experience with gourds was to grow Birdhouse gourds because I found seeds in a local department store. I did not at that time fully understand what to do with them, except to let them dry. I was not in the know about cleaning the mold off the outside, until I talked with another gourd crafter who was willing to share. Once I learned how to clean them it was off to the races. Friends brought me leather scraps and the idea wheels began to turn. My first leather covered gourds were just done in one color leather. Then as the scraps began to be more colorful I decided to try my hand at another way to use those different colors.
