The church building has been around for a while, but the congregation is ever changing. New folks are always moving in and summer folks love to come for a visit. The church tends to be older people, however a vital group of teens keeps us young. They lead the praise choruses each Sunday morning. The focus of the church is knowing God, and putting that knowledge into practice. Bible study and prayer are important to us. That's where we connect with God. We talk to God and God talks to us. We find out what it is to live a godly life, and through the power of the Holy Spirit we try to live it out. God is love and we try to put his love in action. One way we do that is with our monthly dinners. We fix a delicious home-cooked meal for the community and just ask for a donation from those who come to eat. Every other month the donations are designated for people in need. We've contributed to national and international disaster relief, as well as local ministries such as Hospice. We take prayer seriously. Each Sunday we set aside a generous portion of the service for sharing prayer requests as well as praises for prayers answered. We've been blessed to see miracles take place in the lives of many people for whom we've prayed. The pastor is Susan Hyland. She's a teacher and a story-teller at heart. The goal of each Sunday's sermon is to have the scripture come alive! The Bible is about real people, a lot like us. The more we can enter into their story and join them in their faith struggle, the better it is for us and our understanding of God. It helps us open our hearts to hear God's Spirit speak to us. Besides serving as pastor of the church, Susan also teaches GED classes and homeschools her three teenage children. |
