We took a direct hit (BIP) to the waist just prior to the target. Lieutenant Giest prematurely toggled the bombs due to the effects of the flak hit. After dropping five to seven thousand feet we regained control of the B-17. Now out of formation we made the long trip home. Losing five crew members on the trip and one in the crash at home base.

Bomb Run:
-N/A target, N/A% within 1000 feet of IP

Damage to ship: BIP in nose; Aircraft: Category-E
-342 damage points (Peckham Chart-from ConSimWorld)

Comments:
This mission is the worst day of my life. We thought for sure we were gone! Up to the target there was nothing of consequence happing. Two waves of enemy fighters approached our squadron, one flashed through our squadron and our little friends drove the other off. But just prior to the bomb drop, we took a flak shell in the nose. This killed two of our crew and required us to fall out of formation. It was a long trip home that saw a total of 16 German fighters trying to take us out. If it weren't for our fighter cover we would not be here.

Another relatively easy trip to Europe for us today. A second trip with only one wave of enemy fighters penetrating out formation. This fighter hit our starboard wing, damaging the root about 20%. Our other damage was from friendly fire chasing off fighters attempting to breaking up our formation.

Busy flight today. We were agitated by enemy fighters on both sides of the target as well as over the target. Damage wasnt too bad, thanks to our boys shooting and our little friends. The little friends drove off at least five enemy fighters today. With all the action today and with little damage to the crew and ship the crew feels pretty lucky now (earned a rabbits foot)

We though we had come out of this unscaved till Lieut. Thorne tried to open the Bomb Bay doors. Sgt. Albers reported that there were large holes along the port hinges, and there was a chunck of aluminium jamming up the works.
