Spring 2004 - There is a wonderful person I know who has helped me out several times with some of the work that needs to be completed around my home to make it more functional. He has helped me put up the fence in the front yard. This was done to keep people out who have walked by in the past and stolen some of the sprinkler heads. He has helped knock concrete curbing away from my driveway to stop the garage from flooding with water during the rainy season. He helped to pull up old carpeting that needed to be removed from one of the bedrooms. He helped me with taking several loads of junk to the dump. I tried to pay him for all of the work he has helped me with but he refused knowing that I was without any income since the death of my husband and did not know when I would or even if I ever would have an income in the future. He provided me with all of this needed help out of pure love and compassion for someone he saw was in desperate need. What makes this person so extraordinary is while he was providing this enormous amount of love and compassion he was suffering through the hell of severe schizophrenia.
Pity does nothing for someone in need outside of making them feel worthless and disposable. On the other hand, love and compassion brings healing and strength to a person in need.

Pity - You can wash your dirty laundry in my washing machine and dryer. You can take your needed bath using my shower.
Love - Let's find a way to repair your washer and dryer so you can have clean clothes whenever you need them. Let's find a way to repair your bathroom so that you can have a working toilet and a functional bathtub to make your life better and healthier. |
