What Are Nautical Chart Tiles ?

Nautical Chart Relief Tiles are individually, hand-made, ceramic tiles. 

The tiles are Bas-Relief tiles.  The sections of tile that depict the "land" areas of the chart are raised higher than the rest of the tile. The "shallow water" areas are the next highest. The "medium water" areas are next highest, and then the "deep water" areas are the areas which are carved the deepest into the clay tile.

From your favorite chart, these tiles are created to great accuracy. The tiles are carved, dried slowly, fired, glazed and fired again. The individual tiles are then  mounted onto a wood backing. Border tiles are then mounted also. The border tiles wrap around the wood backing to give a beautiful finished look. The finished piece is then mounted with hanging hardware.                            

From chart to delivery, most pieces can be completed in four to six weeks. 

Any special requests that you may have, I am more than happy to work with you on. If you would like to have your house, or mooring shown on the tiles...no problem!  Special additions such as mountainous areas, hurricanes, storm clouds, etc, are no problem to add on to the tiles, but due to the extra time and materials involved, there will be an extra charge for such additions.
