HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Linda Farrelly reported that 14 of the 21 members approved the slate of officers. 7 members did not respond. The officers for 2005 are:

President - Marion Bolson
Vice President - Cheryl Netter
Secretary - Mary Schade
Treasurer - Sandy Serhant
Webmaster - Linda Farrelly
Member Records - Linda Benson
Show Chairperson -(co-chairs)Candice Kleinbub and Linda Farrelly
Seminar Chairperson - Audrey Wilvert
Challenge Chairperson - Audrey Wilvert

Thanks to all for volunteering for the positions.

Audrey is still working on lining up classes for 2005. She has several possibilities and will contact the teachers to find out cost and availability. She is trying to get a teacher that will stretch the group. Please contact Audrey if you have any suggestions.

Marion reported that there was no new information available on the Creative Festival. No one has received information regarding classes offered. She still expects the festival to be held. She will send out an email requesting volunteers to work our booth.

Audrey has received only 5 applications for the doll challenge. The group decided to extend the deadline until January 15. The web sites listing the challenge will be contacted. Members can submit their entry at the January meeting. Due to the response we will not solicit additional prizes.

Sandy Serhant suggested we consider raising the annual dues by $5 to $20 per year. She indicated we only have $250 in the Treasury. At this time we dont have plans to spend the money so we did not take a vote on the suggestion.

Marion told us about a one day Flat Doll seminar in California. There will be six different nationally known teachers. Each teacher will show the class new techniques. Marion indicated she would probably go to the seminar. The cost of the class is $60but of course you would have to get there. We discussed the possibility of paying for Marion to attend the seminar and have her share what she learns with the club members.

SHOCK & AWE

Marion had a new prayer doll. It was dressed in traditional Norwegian costume.

Sandy brought a gingerbread doll, a snowman in a cup, a Santa doll and old skates she had decorated with paint. She also had several patterns for dolls she was giving away.

Linda Farrelly brought a beautiful knitted butterfly & flower shawl she made for her mother.

The meeting ended with us sharing in the gift exchange..such wonderful pins and bags of stash!!!!!! And of course, good treats.

The meeting began with Barb Pech telling us how to make a latex mold. We then all did the first two steps of the process. We let our molds dry before we continued the process and held the business meeting.

A Pottery Sale will be held at the Arvada Center, 68th and Wadsworth, Tuesday December 7th through Sunday December 12th. It is upstairs in the theater lobby. An email will be sent out to all members.

Audrey has received the first entry to our doll challenge. The entry is from New Jersey. All entries are due December 15th, however members can bring theirs to the December 18th meeting. Dolls are due January 15th.

It was decided that our monthly meetings will continue to be held at the clubhouse.

Since there wasnt a quorum at the meeting, the election will be held via email. The position of Show chairperson is still open. Please volunteer by contacting Marion or Linda Farrelly.

Our next meeting will be December 18th. It is our holiday party. Please bring your favorite treat. We will have two exchanges in which members may participate. One is for a pin doll or ornament. The second is a quart bag of goodies from your stash. Those participating in the bag of goodies exchange will make a doll including the goodies they received and bring it to the March meeting.

Marion passed along her folder on potential teachers for 2005 to Audrey. Audrey will be excepting ideas on possible teachers, seminars for the coming year. The Colorado Springs club would like to see if we cant coordinate classes which would bring down the cost. It would be helpful if we had selected our classes by the Creative Festival so that they could be advertised then. There was a discussion on how we could have workshops from local talent without consuming all weekend. The full weekend events are very tiring and it may be possible to hold them over two weekends when the teacher is local.

Please send all your ideas to Audrey and she will price them out and bring them to the club membership.

Marion has extra DynaFlo dye kits. The kit contains 30 dyes, brushes, resist, etc. The cost is $48.70 which is much less than if you bought the dyes separately.

We have $277 in the treasury.

SHOCK & AWE

Marion brought Sister Rose, the doll she entered this year for the gypsy challenge.

Cheryl brought the pocket prayer doll she made in Marions class. She also had some Christmas ornaments, a sun, a moon and seahorses.

Audrey also brought her pocket prayer doll.

Linda showed us her pocket prayer doll, a pin doll, her book doll with an etch-a-sketch in place of a book, and her lewd nude stocking doll.

DOLL & BEAR SHOW:

Everyone reported that the Doll & Bear Extravaganza went exceptionally well. The club did extremely well in all the competition categories. Candice Wirths entry won Best of Show. Way to go Candice!

Linda Farrellys daughter won best of the category she entered. Everyone in the club that submitted an entry received at least a blue ribbon. You all made the club proud.

The banner Linda Benson obtained for the club looked great. You could easily find our booth from any place in the hall.

SEPTEMBER MEETING:

Bonnie had problems with one of the residents at the park last meeting. He accused her of damaging his car and even called the police. It turned out fine however the experience was so unpleasant that Bonnie will not be attending meetings as long as we meet at the park. Someone else had two tires slashed at that meeting as well. There was a full park garage sale going on but no one knows who slashed the tires.

Anyone can park at Linda F.s house and walk the short couple of blocks to the clubhouse if you would rather not park at the clubhouse. Anyone with ideas on other places to meet need to submit them to Linda or Marion.

Marions prayer doll class is November 6th at the clubhouse. It is $25 for the class including the pattern. It will be a pot luck lunch so bring something for lunch. Contact Marion for details.

NOVEMBER MEETING:

Barb Pech will teach us about making molds at our meeting November 20th. Bring something you want to make a mold of. It can not be cloth. It should be fairly small for Barb is providing the material but doesnt have an unlimited supply. Bring a hairdryer if you can. That will help speed up the drying process. Also bring scissors and an old brush that you can throw away. The brush should be bristly.

DECEMBER MEETING:

The December meeting will be our traditional exchange of a pin doll or ornament. Also we will exchange quart size bags of material and embellishments which participants will use to make an item out of it and bring to the March meeting. THE EXCHANGES ARE OPTIONALcome to the meeting even if you dont wish to participate in one or both of the exchanges.

SALE TABLE:

At each club meeting we will set up a sale table where people can bring items they wish to offer for sale. Put your name on each item so people know who to ask about it.

Linda had some magnets that can be used for pins so that you dont damage clothes when wearing the pins.

Everyone please welcome Gerri Kenney a new member from Oregon. She had lived in Colorado for 19 years, went to Oregon for 6 years and is now back in Colorado. She brought several beautiful dolls for show and tell and allowed us to have 3 of them to display in the booth at the Colorado Doll and Bear Extravaganza. Thanks Gerri!

A great time was had at the Anne Hesse class September 18th and 19th. Linda F. was the most ambitious; she worked on 3 dolls! We learned a lot of new embellishing techniques that we will be able to incorporate into our other dolls. Annie invited us to her Kentucky home for a doll camp next summer. We will have to see how that develops.

If you submitted paperwork for the competition at the Doll and Bear Extravaganza, you should have received your tags by now. If not, contact Pat at dollbearcolo@msn.com

The Altered Barbie challenge dolls are due at the October meeting. Get an old Barbie from a garage sale (or buy a cheap one) and make her over in the image you want!

Linda Benson will be teaching the Nylon Knee-hi Lude Nude Doll at the October 16th meeting. (She had samples at the meeting and they were really cute!) She will have enough knee his, flat washers and faceted beads for you to buy from her for $2.50 for the kit. Please bring 1 long doll making needle, 1 spool dark brown thread (chocolate), and one small bag of stuffing. If you have questions you can email her or call on 303-477-1461. The snack fairy will be Mary Schade.

On November 6th, Marion will be teaching her Prayer Pocket Angel Necklace. It will be held at the club house at 92nd and Pecos from 9:00 to 4:00 and the cost will be $25 which includes the pattern. Supply lists were handed out at the meeting and Marion will be sending a separate email with the list again and what she will have for sale at the class. It requires such small amounts of fabric that she will have small pieces of brocades and cottons for you to purchase in case you dont want to buy a quarter yard. JoAnns does have a nice selection right now if you do want to buy your own. She will also have some leg beads for sale and clasps if you cant find what you need.

At the November 20th meeting, Barb will be teaching mold making. She would like everyone to bring a SMALL item they would like to make a mold of. You will also need a short bristle brush and bring a hairdryer. Snack fairy will be Candice.

The December meeting will be on the 18th and will be our Christmas Party. We will have a quart bag goody bag exchange and a pin/ornament exchange. The goody bag should be filled with stuff you found inspiring at one time but havent found the perfect use for. We would like to challenge the club to make dolls out of the items in the bags and bring to the March 2005 meeting. We will be having a snack/treat potluck at the meeting.

It is probably time for the club to have an Election of officers. At the October meeting we will be accepting nominations for the following posts:

President
Vice President
Secretary
Webmaster
Member records
Show Chairperson
Seminar (class) Chairperson
Challenge Chairperson

Linda will put together job descriptions for each by the next meeting.

Marion told us that the Bead Bazaar will be April 23 and 24, 2005. Booth cost for a 10X10 booth is $400. There is a waiting list since previous vendors get the first opportunity.

Shock and Awe:

Gerri brought several wonderful dolls that she made from Christine Shively, Barbara Willis, Cathy Fulton and epb patterns. She told us the Cathy Fulton would love to come and teach a class for us. Marion will get more information.

Bonnie made one of the dragons from a Melinda Small Patterson pattern. It was a study in the complimentary colors, purple and yellow. She wasnt happy with it but we all fell in love. She used dimensional fabric paint for the claws but might try polymer clay next time.

Suzanne was a visitor and brought her dolls on a stick! She had one that was Frankensteins monster. She said she liked the idea of no legs. She is here from Calgary and may not be able to make many weekend meetings since that is the time she gets to spend with her husband. She also showed us a small folded book we can make for our dolls. The instructions are at HGTV.com Carol Duvall Episode CDS-1259.

Barb brought in another of her beautiful sculptures. This one was of her mom. It was done in white stoneware then cold finished with dry brush acrylic paints.

Linda brought in her book doll that she made with a patterned lycra and an etch a sketch. She said that the lycra fingers are a dream to turn. She also brought in a doll she made for an art doll challenge that she finished 18 months late (Hey, she finished!). It is embellished with barbed wire and beads and is called Good fences make good neighbors. She also brought in two more pin dolls from the farm bandana she has been trying to use up. The goddess of unrealistic expectations from the round robin made her appearance also. She had a lot of accessories.

Cheryl and Audrey brought in their unfinished book dolls, one with an embossed face and one with a sculpey mask. They are getting close to being done! They will be wonderful for attracting attention at our booth at the doll show.

Marion is madly working on her Gypsy Challenge doll. (Update: it has been shipped!)

Sandy brought in a doll she made from an internet pattern. It was black and white prints with shocking pink hair. She did a great job and is going to let us display it at the booth.

She also had some handouts that she had printed from the internet. Thanks Sandy! She also told us about Gretchen Lima who she would like to have come in and teach. From her website it looks like she does wise women and shamans. She said that if we can get 10 people together to buy a needle felting book we can get a good discount. (Marion has the book and will bring it in for everyone to see).

Linda Benson told us about Christmas in July at Bernina and showed us a sample of a soft fabric that can be used for bears. She also brought in samples of her nylon sculpted dolls that she will be teaching in October.

Diana showed us Ballet/Dancer dolls that she has designed. She uses collage and paperclay to make these wonderful dolls. She said that the techniques she learned from Annie Hesse will really help with her creations. Diana has a web site up for selling her yarns and wool roving, it is www.yummyyarns.com . She said that later next year she might sponsor a challenge for us using two half skeins of her fiber. Check her website for the dolls made in a challenge like this by club members in Canada.

Doll And Bear Extravaganza:

We discussed everything we need to do and have at the doll show.

Diana has some racks she will bring for displays.

Audrey brought in a table skirt.

Linda Benson will look into a banner for the DDA.

We have 3 full time workers and 4 part time workers. We should have enough, but please let us know if you want to work. We can always go shopping while you work the booth*grin*.

We can do some demos in the booth. Bring beading, stuffing, face painting or whatever you are working on.

Marion had received the dye kits ordered. The cost is $48.70 per kit. The doll kits will be ordered if we come up with an order for 20 kits.

The Creative Festival is January 27, 28 and 29 in 2005. The club will hold a doll challenge. Audrey explained the challenge rules. The rules are post on our web sit. We need additional prizes. Please contact Audrey if you know of any possibilities.

If you are interested in conducting an hour long class at the Creative Festival contact Marion for the proposal forms. You would get $2 per student attending the class if they accept your proposal.

We may only be able to display dolls at the Creative Festival and may only have room for the challenge dolls. Everyone is encourage to enter a doll.

Audrey is contacting the Foothills Art Gallery to see if they would be interested in doing a doll show. We would contact other doll clubs throughout Colorado if they would have a show.

Audrey indicated she would be willing to do a bear class if people are interested. She suggests you purchase kits from Intercal for the class. She will send out information regarding a potential class via email. You could use your own pattern as long as the bear is big enough. She indicated it is too hard to teach a first time class using joints on small bears. We could coordinate the purchase of the mohair for the bears through Intercal in order to get a better deal. Mohair is expensive.

There is a challenge at the Bear and Doll Extravaganza. You must submit the entry form by September 1 if you are interested in participating. Marion has the forms and will send them out via email.

The club bought 1 booth at the Bear and Doll Extravaganza for display and information on our club. Some individuals are interested in getting a second booth in order to sell items. Pat Patterson, from Just Stuffed doll club asked if they could sell at the second booth. Everyone thought it was fine to include them. The more people that want to participate in the booth, the less the cost would be. If you are interested, contact Marion.

Anne Hesse will be here for her class on September 18 and 19. Therefore we will be changing the next meeting to September 25th.

Tomorrow Heirlooms is having a class on the Beaded Goddess on Saturday, September 11. The class is by Janet Kay Skein. The class costs $30 plus the price of the kit. We dont know the kit price.

The library was so impressed with our exhibit they asked us to participate again next year. We could pick the month we wanted. We will ask for either July or August.

The club has $289 in the Treasury.

Pat Patterson talked to Marion about forming a Colorado Doll Guild. The guild would enable all to coordinate bringing in teachers and getting dolls to different events throughout the state. The members present indicated our club should support and participate in the guild. Audrey volunteered to be our representative.

Marion would like suggestions for teachers next year. She will compile a list and bring it back to the membership to select teachers. Teachers suggested at the meeting were Karen Shiffin for sculpting and Barbara Willis.

The group discussed the possibility of picking a pattern and holding a workshop to make the doll. We could help each other through the process.

Marion will teach a class on her pattern for a beaded pendant doll on November 6. $25 includes the pattern.

There was a discussion about the Rocky Mountain Bead Society. Their web site is www.rockybeads.org.

Discussion was held on topics for the next several meetings.

September 25th meeting will talk about the upcoming Bear and Doll Extravaganza. Bring dolls you would like displayed if you cant bring the dolls to the show.

October 16th Linda Benson will show us how she does nylon sculpting on her panty hose dolls. Mary Schade will be the snack fairy.

November 20th one suggestion was how to mold hands and faces.

We also held a discussion on how to make money for the club. One idea was to sell books at the various fairs, especially now that some book vendors are no longer participating. They may be willing to have us sell the book for them with minimal upfront cost

Althea Mortensen attended the beginning of our meeting as a guest. She had seen our display at the library. She is the editor of Denvers on-line womens magazine Marvelouswomen.com. Items, such as spiritual dolls, could be sold through the magazine. Althea is also opening up an on-line store called Sundays Child Gifts. To make it profitable the items should be priced over $100 for the magazine and over $50 for the on-line store. Each charges 20% of the sale to cover their costs. She stated items do not have to meet child safety standards as long as there is a disclaimer associated with the item. Contact Althea directly if you want more information or to participate. Althea@sundayschildgift.com or Althea@marvelouswomen.com.

We met at Linda Farrellys clubhouse. Everyone liked the room. It was comfortable and had great light. Linda will try to obtain the clubhouse for future meetings. The next meeting will be Saturday, August 21. We will go back to the 3rd Saturday of the month. The meeting will be on Tyvek. You can get Tyvek from www.meinketoy.com or it is available in the white mailing envelopes you can get at the post office.

There is a Pat Patterson face sculpting class at Marions on Saturday, August 7th. Pay on Saturday.

The club needs to pick up the dolls at the library, Saturday, July 31. We will meet there at 4pm.

Diana Benett said we could contact her directly if you want any of her fleece. Stephanie Gauper also fleece available. You can contact her until she leaves for Michigan where she will teach next semester.

The Doll and Bear Extravaganza in October wants pictures of our dolls. Marion will get pictures for them.

There are still some spaces available for the Anne Hess class in September. Full payment is needed to Marion by August 9.

Virginia Robertsons newsletter from Dolores Colorado has the same Christine Shively class we held for $175. We had a great deal.

The DynaFlow class packs can be obtained through the club for $59. That is a savings around $25 and all colors are included. The club will keep the dyes obtained for the Patti Medaris Culea class for future use by the members.

Marion set up a wholesale account with Caravan beads. She isnt sure if it will be a good deal or not. Contact her if you are interested.

Sandy Serhant brought information on free patterns you can test out for the designer. Also information on an altered Barbie doll contest.

It was mentioned that Denver Fabrics has bags of ultra suede for $4 a bag. They are small pieces which are good for making shoes.

The club received an invitation to participate in the Winery at Holy Cross Abbey 2004 Harvest Festival in Canon City. It costs $150 and is in September. It is an outside festival which is not usually good for our dolls. Contact Marion if you are interested.

There was a brief discussion on what teachers the club would like to bring in next year to teach. Please give ideas to Marion. She will consolidate and bring to the club.

Jacquard donated 3 doll pin kits as prizes for our Creative Sewing Festival doll challenge.

Marion Bolson and Sandy Serhant brought the dolls they created at Patti Culeas class. Sandy had crocheted shoes and panties on her doll.

You can get the pattern for Patti Culeas name tag doll on her site. You do have to dig through the pages to find it. It is free.

Linda Benson brought the plates she decoupaged with the paper towels she collected at the class. The ones used to clean up the dyes. What a creative idea! She also brought some older patterns that she had for sale. Linda also had made some felt flower pin cushions.

Marge Daboll brought a 1990 Virginia Robertsons book on making faces. She had found it at a garage sale.

Stephanie Gauper brought the beginnings of a doll using hand woven fabric and commercial fabric. It was a jointed doll. Interesting how she had stabilized the hand woven fabric so it would support the doll.

Cheryl Netters Simone doll is in the Soft Dolls September 2004 issue.

Bonnie Moreno brought a doll similar to the one she had entered in a London contest for the Heart Association. She also brought several wonderful felt dolls. The first one made from Stephanies class, a man and woman dolls, and two small bears that she made for her first grandchild due later this year.

June 12, 2004

Attending: Edie, Bonnie, Emily, Linda B., Barbara, Audrey, Marge, Stephanie, Darlene, Miriam, Linda F., (chair),and new member Candice Wirth.

We met at Cheryl's Nouvea neoJungian plantation of roses (many oxymorons). She taught a most clear lesson on Procion dyes on cottons; it was so fun no one wanted to go home. Cheryl claimed herself NOT a teacher, but her directions were sequential and easy to follow.

After the July 24th meeting, we will need to move our meetings to the SECOND Sat. each month at Hancock. Next meetings; July 24 and August 14. Preferential treatment is being given to quilters who are known for their bellicosity. (editor's note: they are required by corporate headquarters to have their classes on the same schedule as all the other stores)

There will be a display of some of our work at Westminister library, three cases, 2 feet wide and 3+feet high. It will last one month.

October 9 and 10 Booths 102 & 103 at Teddy Bear and Doll Extravaganza, one booth for club and one for display/selling Doll Completions Outside the Box.

Patti Culea doll class has three spaces; needle sculpting class on August 7 has three or four spaces. Paper class class, date TBA.

Altered Barbie for October meeting, buy a thrift shop Barbie and do what you will; remember it is her 45th birthday and she is now divorced from Ken.

July meeting will be on joints and stitching. Bring needles, thread, fabric, bit of stuffing to learn some construction stitches. Bring examples of joints that work and don't work.

For Show and Tell (aww, come on girls, we're all more sophisticated than that, let's not practice self-abnegation), let's call this part of the meeting Shock and Awe. I am always astonished by the creativity.

Bonnie had her finished Round Robin doll with such exquisite detail; Candice has an extravagantly beaded doll of her own design, Oceana. Candice took Julie McCullough's on- line class and had a doll called Spring or Eden. She had an amazing doll that stood IN a large stone.

Linda F brought in the pin dolls she received in a doll swap. One was all Fimo, another made out of shrink plastic and wire, and 2 were cloth and mixed media.

Marge's bookworm was funny and clever.

Barb brought her needle felted Polynesian with the beading from Bonnie's class on it. It had a shocking sarong on it.

Kathryn had a round robin Oceania.

Emily brought her first jointed doll named Evelyn. Emily has done many other dolls.

We all gazed rapt at Bridget, patron saint of Blacksmith's, finished in Round Robin. She even has her own anvil and leather glove.

What a wonderful day of frivolity, color, wind, learning, gazing. What great women.

Sandy Serhant brought a rabbit and Mary Schade brought a giraffe. Linda Benson brought a male and female nude made from stockings. Phyllis Jones brought a marionette she made.

Goddess dolls made by Chris/Cherry Netter, Bonnie Moreno, Marge Daboll and Linda Farrelly were also on display.

Every thing was grand.

Web site Audrey, Kestrel and Linda will be meeting to discuss the website this month. If you have input on the design, please contact one of them.

Creative Festival Doll Challenge - A doll challenge is planned for dolls to be displayed at Creative Festival in January 2005. Linda Farrelly is coordinating the effort to set guidelines and a theme. Please see her if you are interesting in helping.

The Westminster Library will have 3 large display cases for display of our dolls during the month of July. The display will be right in front of the childrens area so all dolls displayed must be appropriate. This should be a wonderful way to display our work. Everyone needs to think about what work they would be willing to share. The cases are locked.

It was reported that Virginia Robertsons book on sculpting is now available.

The paper had a pull out section showing the various masks that have been created for the Mask Project. This is a good source for inspiration.

Felted Doll Demo -

Stephanie Gauper gave us guidance on how to create a felted doll. She had many samples and a good handout explaining the technique she was teaching. She also brought a lot of wool for those of us that needed some. We spent the remainder of the meeting creating our felted characters. What fun and a good job by Stephanie.

Notice: The April 17th meeting on felted wool dolls will be taught by Stephanie Gauper. She asked that you bring in a picture of a face you would like to duplicate or use for inspiration. A few chenille stems for the "skeleton", A piece of foam or suede to protect your lap or table from the felting needle. Felting needles will be offered for sale if you do not have any. Wool will be provided by Stephanie. This should be a fascinating and fun session. We are lucky to have Stephanie as our instructor in this very different doll making method.

Show And Tell:

Melinda brought in a folder of pictures of the doll clothing that she is creating. She also promised to provide the web site showing the HUGE doll house with dozens of dolls that she has been commisioned to clothe. We look forward to peeking in.

Audrey showed a doll made from an Elinore Peace Baily pattern. A lovely creation!

Marge had another ELinore Peace Baily doll that she had made as an image of herself as a Parochial elementary school student, complete with sling shot and attitude!

Edie showed a cloth doll that she teaches to beginning doll makers She has submitted 2 much more advanced dolls to an exhibit in Loveland. We hope to see these when the exhibit opens.

Our guest Barbara displayed a doll she had made with a hand crafted ceramic head, hands and feet. She designed the cloth body and embellishments.

Linda showed some very different dolls, a clever (actually amazing!) use of a jewelry ring box, transformed into a doll/chair object that revealed pins and mirrors when opened. A very unique doll with quite a unique story behind it. Her other doll was constructed from "watch cases", each case enclosing a decorative element and wire. So interesting to see the line blurring between doll and art!!

Sherry showed us the doll she has completed for the Nebraska "bag" exchange. A conventional little pastoral doll fairy with painted face carrying her wings and journal in a bag. She was able to use nearly all the materials provided by the Nebraska doll artist. These "bag" dolls should all be completed to bring to the April meeting.

Kestrel brought her Spirit Stick, The 5'+ aspen limb was embellished with a fimo face that appeared carved into the wood. An actual horse tail was employed as the hair and the being was trimmed with leather laces, beads and bells. The Spirit Stick has her own medicine bag and the ability to become invisible. A powerful example of alternative doll creation.

Cheryl brought examples of the type of hand dyed cloth we will be learning to do in June. She will have Hoffman Pima Cotton available to buy at approx $5.00 per yard. If you wish to bring your own fabric please make sure it is 100% cotton, the better the quality of the fabric the better the results. She also displayed a doll she created using her own hand dyed fabrics proving the color fastness of the dyes, as this doll had been displayed in a window for years!

Sandy brought in a list of interesting web sites that she monitors. She will continue to do this for us and provide the info to our site for inclusion. Very helpful for those of us who do not have the expertise or time to cruise the internet. Some examples she provided are:
www.visions.com/newsletter
www.fabricmanglers-homestead.com
www.lisasheaven.com
www.pattisdolls.com
www.rusticraggedys.com/sewing2stuffing.htm

Bonnie brought in a project that she is working on, the Baba Yaga and Vasalisa Dyad Doll pattern by Patterson. The faces are fascinating on this version of a very elaborate Topsy/Turvey doll. The dolls are a work in progress, it will be so interesting to see them as the embellishing, dressing and finishing progresses. She also brought a doll of her own design, where the face opens to reveal a mirror, and a message that can only be read as a reflection in it. Very interesting.

Marion provided a variety of items for members to purchase if needed. So nice to be able to do this without having to buy entire packets of felting needles or pay postage for tools!
She also sponsored a raffle of sculpting books by Faith Wicke complete with sculpting tools. Sherry won the raffle to her complete and utter delight! Proceeds of the raffle went to our treasury. This was such a fun thing! Kudos to Marion for all the imagination and inspiration she brings to our club.

Business meeting:

The Round Robin Dolls, phase 1 of the embellishing and finishing process . Everyone enjoyed seeing how the dolls were coming along. The progress of each doll is fascinating. WE all look forward to seeing what next month will bring!

We will have a booth again at the Creative Festival in January. Elinore Peace Baily may do a stage show during the festival. Marion has suggested that DDA sponsor a doll challenge to raise awareness of DDA and doll making in general! What a great idea! Linda Farrelly will head the committee for this doll challenge. This should be quite exciting! We may even be able to get Elinore to be a judge if she is indeed going to attend. If you have any ideas for the challenge, contact Linda and she'll put you to work.

If you would like to teach a class during the festival be working on your proposal. The teachers are given a percentage of the fee for attending your workshop. Might be a fun way to earn some $$ and introduce more of the public to dolls.

The Web Page committee is still working on ways to enhance our web and provide a link to a gallery where members could display or sell their creations .

A class by Pat Patterson on needle sculpting and painting faces is proposed for August. Details will be posted as soon as they are known.

Bonnie presented a demo on how to bead a bracelet using large size 6 beads as the base and smaller seed beads as the embellishments. Her instructions were clear and everyone who participated was able to create a beaded strip, suitable for doll decorating or for themselves.

Once again as you can see from the list of attendees our club is growing. The scope of talent and experience as well as sheer imagination is amazing. What a generous group of people we have gathered together. We are all just delighted to be able to experience so many different forms of "dolls", doll as play object, doll as art object, doll as spirit being. Truly something for everyone at every meeting! Be sure to make our next meeting a priority on your calendar. We guarantee you will learn something and enjoy doing it!

NOTE TO CLUB MEMBERS from Sherry Staton: My husband and I have now retired and will be moving to our farm in Mo. Although I am totally ecstatic about my retirement and our little farm, I will so miss this club and the members. Everyone has been so generous with your encouragement and sharing your knowledge. I am inspired to continue my doll making journey. I finally did complete the one doll (no one more amaze by that than ME!!!) Who knows what I will accomplish in the bliss of retirement. I hope to keep in touch via email and to participate where possible in the future. Thanks again to everyone for your kindness. Keep playing dolls!!

What a great turn out! We have many new members and interested parties. The club becomes more exciting each month. So many talents and skills being brought together.

The Feb. Meeting showcased many examples of the members abilities:
Katherine showed several examples of her mixed media pieces. A paper clay/sculpey "monster", Mermaid and a bust. Very nice modeling.

Carmen brought in 2 of her all cloth works, a mermaid and a fairy, both delightful.

Stephanie showed us her "felted" figures. Very timely as we had just discussed this technique at our last meeting.

Kristine a long time bear maker showed us a few of her creations. All were charmed by the mohair/fur bears and the keep sake animals made from clothing of loved ones. She also brought her work in progress, an Anne of the Celtic Mist with tab joints.

Audrey presented her Anne of the Celtic Mist in the complete form! The joints in this particular Eleanor Peace Bailey pattern were of special interest.

Kestrel had a re-design of a pattern from the internet.

Cheryl brought Simone, a doll she made from a pattern by Jesse Chandler. She found the pattern in Soft Doll and Animals.

All members who are involved with the round robin brought their dolls to exchange. What a variety there is! All skill levels seem well represented. This is going to be quite exciting to see the dolls develop their identities.

Those members who brought bags to exchange with the Nebraska doll club recieved their "project packs". Again a lot of variety in what we each received to work with.

The presentation concerned joints and we examined some examples and discussed the how to's and advantages of certain joints.

The upcoming meetings will be:

March 27th. Beaded bracelet demo, bring your beads and tools. Sherry is the Snack Fairy

April 17, Needle Felting , LInda is the snack fairy

May 15, Hair and foiling, Audrey is the snack fairy

June 12, Dying, Sandy is the snack fairy

To be announced, Katherine will be presenting a paperclay seminar.

Wallace Sewing and Vacuum
Boulder, Co
Tele 303-443- 7133
Cost is $ 75.00

Linda has arranged the use of 3 cases at the library in July to display our works... be thinking about what you would like to exhibit.

Be sure to write the next meeting on your calendar.. we are growing and it is going to be a fun summer!

Audry brought a doll fashioned after a Leta Bennedict pattern. This doll utilized the "skin" technique on the face eliminating the center seam. The doll was embellished with dyed lace and Organza wings decorated with floral spray paint. The doll was cleverly displayed on a wooden candlestick.

Marge showed several dolls that will be in the booth at the Creative Festival Jan 29-31.

Business Meeting:

Tresurer's report: balance is $215.00

Marion brought in examples of the dolls that will be taught at the upcoming classes: Anne Hess, Patti Culea and Christine Shively. Sign up sheets for the classes are available. Please contact Marion at Marion.Bolson@comcast.net if you are interested in attending one of these classes. A wonderful opportunity to learn from very talented doll artists.

Work continues on the web site. Audrey will be emailing the members with a questionaire and info concerning the web site.

Linda discussed an opportunity to display our dolls at the Westminster Library in July. 3 large display cabinets are available. It was voted that we would utilize this venue to display dolls. Details will be discussed at upcoming meetings.

Goddess Exchange: Linda will email all participants with details.

February meeting: The topics will be Joints and personal doll making challenges. Bring in your problems for advice and help.

Demonstrations:

Audrey showed Tibetan Lambs wool skins that she had hand dyed used Rit dyes. she cautioned that using the Hot water bath dye would cause the hide to become brittle. A cold water bath was much preferable.

Kestrel provided hand outs on using Kool Aid, Jello and Easter Egg dyes for coloring wool fibers. She demonstrated using Kool Aid as a dye agent for wools. She showed examples of "Wavy wool" and "Royal Fleece" dyed using her technique of baggies and Kool Aid.
The utilization of the baggie eliminates much of the mess of dying!

A very interesting meeting! See you all in February.
