Art Nouveau Doll Challenge

Art Nouveau Doll Challenge Creative Festival February 6 to 8, 2009

PRE-REGISTRATION BY January 1, 2009

Welcome to the Art Nouveau Doll Challenge which will be held during the Creative Festival in Denver, Colorado, February 6 through 8, 2009. If you have any questions, please contact Marion Bolson at 303-457-2866 or email at Marion.Bolson@comcast.net.

Create an Art Nouveau doll that will showcase your wonderful doll making skills and submit it for the challenge.
Art Nouveau is the term for the art movement from 1850 to 1915. The style was richly ornamental and asymmetrical, characterized by twining plant tendrils and stylized flowers. The artists imbued their designs with dreamlike and exotic forms. One example of a designer of art nouveau in England was the graphic artist Alphonse Mucha. Much of the art also included stained glass elements; Tiffany lamps came from this era.
The doll may be made from any medium. The entry may have human features, or it can be all or partially flora or fauna or even mineral. Your imagination is all that is holding you back!! This is actually an art style that can be applied to many types of dolls such as angels, fairies, mermaids, brides, clowns whatever you can imagine!

Please pre register your creation by mail, using the form included by January 1, 2009. There is a $5.00 entry fee for each doll, and you may enter as many dolls as you like. (No entry fees will be refunded)

Mail in entries WILL be accepted; see registration form (below) for details.

Dolls made during a seminar, class or using someone elses pattern are allowed, but this must be clearly identified on the registration form and wrist tag to give the designer credit. An original doll is any doll that is the unique idea of the doll maker and no commercial pattern has been used for any of the components. Your interpretation of a pattern is not an original doll.

All dolls should have appropriate stands or supports for display and all accessories firmly attached.

All dolls and props should be marked with the doll makers name in case they get separated from their official identification. Please make sure the name is on each item but cannot be seen by the judges as they pick up the entry to evaluate.

Entries cannot be removed until Sunday, February 8th at 4:00P.M. If you need to send someone to pick up the doll, please give them a signed note of permission. We do not want to misplace any dolls or let them go home with the wrong owner. Mail in dolls will be packed and returned to the owners within two weeks of the show date.

Great care will be used with handling the dolls; we know how dear they are to your hearts. However, the Denver Doll Artisans, any of its members or the Creative Festival is not responsible for any harm or theft and if necessary you should obtain insurance as you see fit. The Festival has guards patrol at night, and the booth will be manned during show hours to reduce any mistreatment or theft.

Ribbons in first, second and third places and for the following categories will be awarded. There will also be prizes for the following categories.
