March, we will do faces April, will be hair May will be dyeing and embellishing. We will try to have handouts made for people that cant attend a meeting. Please bring pancake dolls for display at the Creative Festival so we can show people what we are doing. We discussed fining people who were late on returning library material. We decided it wasnt a problem yet and would revisit it if a problem arose. For the January meeting, bring the challenge doll you made using a Patti Culea pattern so the members can vote on the dolls. These dolls will be displayed at the Creative Festival booth. Applications for the Enchanted Sea Challenge are on our web site. The applications should be sent in and fees paid by January 1. The dolls arent due until Feb 2, for the Creative Festival. You can request a brochure for the Creative Festival from their web site. The snack fairy for January is Kestrel Frank. The library will purchase the pattern for the Triplets of Belleview dolls. Shock & Awe Edie Petrock brought some pancake dolls, felted purses with scarf to match. Colleen has requested creative ideas for transporting the clubs library to and from meetings. We voted to subscribe to Art Doll Quarterly magazine and to Soft Dolls & Animals magazine. The Creative Festival will be held Feb 2, 3 & 4 2007. The club will host a doll challenge titled Enchanted Sea. Applications are on our web site. Elinor peace bailey has agreed to judge the challenge and she will provide a judges choice award. Gypsy Pamela will provide a Gypsys Choice award. Linda Farrelly will coordinate workers for our booth. The club decided to nominate people for the club officers at the December meeting and vote on the officers at the January meeting. The club voted to spend the dollars needed to purchase the dynaflow dyes we have used up in our kit. December 16th meeting - This is our annual holiday party. Please bring a dessert type snack to share. If you wish to participate we will have two exchanges. You can be in one or both. One is a hand made ornament or pin. The other is a quart size baggie of stash. We will nominate people for office at this meeting. If you have made a pancake doll, please bring to show and tell. January 20th meeting - We will elect officers at the meeting. Also make a pancake doll. Please bring basic sewing supplies, material for doll and we need a couple of sewing machines. Linda Farrelly will send out a supply list. The Arvada Center Pottery Show and Sale is Dec 7-14. Linda Benson, Janet Greenwood and Barb Pech have pieces in the sale. September September 16, 2006 We met at the Bead Renaissance for a quick meeting. It appears that several individuals wont be able to make the October 21st meeting. Anita Owens offered to host a get together at her home Saturday, October 21st for anyone wanting to work on unfinished projects. Linda Farrelly will send out a notice regarding this. August August 19, 2006 I neglected to pick up the sign in sheet passed around at the meeting. Since I dont remember everyone that attended, I am not providing a list of attendees. If anyone took home the list, please email the names to me and Ill update the minutes. Thank you. There is $1,236 in the treasury. Library report. It was suggested that the club purchase the Best of Soft Dolls for the library. There should be lots of good patterns in the book. It was agreed to obtain the book. Some material has been checked out for quite a while. Names will be provided to Linda Farrelly so email reminders can be sent out. The library wont be available at the September meeting but you may return material at the meeting. College Hill Library requested we extend our display through September. All participants agreed. Linda Farrelly, Anita Owens and Darline Smith will consolidate the display into two cases at the end of August. Anita Owens will head up a committee to look into what it means to the club to have a non-profit status. No decision will be made until the club has more information. The Colorado Doll and Bear Extravaganza has been cancelled. Too many vendors elected not to participate due to the high gas prices. The Creative Festival will still be held the first weekend in February 2007. Start to work on your Enchanted Sea entry. The club decided to have a club challenge and we will display the dolls at our Creative Festival booth. For the club challenge make any dolls out of one of the three Patti Culeas books. The dolls will be due at the January meeting. Barbara Willis will hold a class at The Quilters Garden, 4019 S Mason Street, Suite 4, Fort Collins, Phone 970-223-4269. Participants will make her La Belle doll, Sept 9 & 10. Class is from 10:30 to 4:30 each day and costs $125 plus $35 kit fee. Diana Bennet talked to Marilynn Huston about teaching a class for our club in 2007. Marilyn charges $250-300 per day of class plus transportation and accommodations. She is willing to stay at a home. Her articulated body and head class is 3 days long. That may not work for our club. She isnt available until spring 2007. Based on 12-15 students for a class, it would cost approximately $125 per participate to bring her in to teach. She is an excellent teacher. The club would like to pursue bringing her to town to teach her pop-up doll class. Marion Bolson talked to Karen Shifton at the EDAC conference and she is also interested in teaching. She does wonderful lions. We will look into bringing her here in fall 2007. Marion Bolson indicated that she wont be holding classes in her home in 2007. It is time others help out, since it is a lot of work to host a class. The club house is only available on Saturdays. Both Cheryl Netter and Edie Petrock indicated they would consider hosting classes. It obviously depends on when and what type of class will be held. Future meetings: September 16th meeting will be at the Bead Renaissance. We will meet at 1 pm in the main lobby for a short business meeting and then off to visit the vendors. The show is held at the Ramada Hotel, I-25 and 120th , southeast corner of intersection. Anyone wishing to have lunch with the group should meet at the hotels restaurant at noon. October 21st meeting. There wasnt enough interest in the Mystery Date Doll. We will work on UFO (Unfinished Objects) for the program. Marion Bolson and Mary Schade will not be in attendance. Cheryl Netter will conduct the meeting. A substitute secretary is needed. Linda Benson will be the snack fairy. November 18th meeting. We will work on Artist Trading Cards. December 16th meeting. This is our traditional holiday party. If you wish to participate, bring an exchange pin/ornament and/or a quart size (storage bag) goodie bag. Stephanie Gauper suggested the club pay for the use of homes for classes and that the club retroactively pay Marion. Marion indicated that usually the cost of the class offsets the costs incurred by her and usually pays for the host to attend the class for free. She doesnt feel she needs additional reimbursement. Gisela Hauert told us that she won a blue ribbon at the Douglas County fair for both her beast and her mermaid. There is $1,156 in the treasury. Edie Petrocks husband, who is an attorney, has offered to help us establish a non-profit status. Cheryl Netter had previously expressed concerns about becoming non-profit. She is out of town but we will follow up on her concerns. The owners of the club house dont want to provide space for our library materials. Other options will be explored. The second session of the doll class at Prosperity Quilt has been cancelled. Please let the club know if you are teaching classes somewhere. The Enchanted Doll Artists Conference will be held July 20-23 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Marion, Anita and Karen Hagert plan on attending. Linda Farrelly will send out an email informing members of the time we will be setting up the display of our dolls at the College Hill Library. You may drop off dolls at Lindas or Marions. Please provide a placard with the dolls name and your name. Anita Owens is coordinating our efforts at the Colorado Doll and Bear Extravaganza. It will be held October 7 & 8th. Please contact Anita if you are able to help. Time to begin thinking about a doll to put in the show. The club voted to purchase 8 bags of Buffalo Batting at @3.50 per bag. The batting will be used for club projects. Karla thanked everyone for all the material that was donated to the library. October 21st - Barbara Piano will conduct a Dolly Date Mystery session. The kits will cost $30 and will have the doll to embellish made up already. We have not paid for our booth at the Doll & Bear Show this fall. Linda Benson has arranged for Barbara Heverly to speak at our July 15th meeting. She will talk about the Bead for Life program. Their website is www.beadforlife.com. Marion Bolson and Barbara Piano held their last class at Prosperity Quilt shop on June 10. At this class, participates made dolls from a Dolly Date Mystery Kit they were given. Members of the class were to guess the theme of the dolls. Everyone enjoyed it. Barbara will continue with the class starting in July. Marions other commitments prevent her from continuing. Please let the club know if you will be teaching a class. We want to support our members. Several members are going to attend the Enchanted Doll Artists Conference, July 20-23 in Albuquerque New Mexico. If you are interested all information is on their website. The clubs library display is for the month of August this year. Please bring dolls to display to the July meeting, drop off at Linda Farrellys home or bring them on August 1 and help set up. Christine Shively is scheduled to teach a class August 12-13. The cost is $95 plus pattern fee for the two day class. A $30 deposit is required by June 30 if you plan to attend. Those making the collage doll will start at 9 am and run to 4 pm. If making the caterpillar, you will start at 1:30 and run until 6:30 pm. We have not been able to obtain any information regarding a class by Barbara Willis at the Quilters Garden in Ft Collins this September. Contact the shop directly if you are interested. A doll made to ensure Inca designs not lost, finger puppets of nativity scene, oil painting and a throw blanket. Cynthia Land showed us some of her cross stitching/beading. She had a tin topper and an emery pouch for needles. Stephanie Gauper brought a doll she made at a class on armatures. Very realistic. Linda Benson had a bracelet made out of the Japanese braid she made at last meeting. Also another long braid she is working on. See Darlene for patches. Denver National Quilt Festival (Mancuso Show) is May 4 - 7, 2006. We need to be thinking about demonstrations we want to show at our booth. This show we can not sell anything, but we do want to get the word out about our club. Let Marion know so a schedule can be set up for times. Doll Making Class at Prosperity with Marion and Barbara are going well. They are planning to set up a second class later in the year, if there is enough interest. Marion is going to try and set up a Yahoo site for pictures from the class. This class is good experience for the novice and seasoned doll makers. The Nature & Science show Body World 2 is worth seeing. Marions husband and Darlene are volunteers. Best time to go is in the evening. The tickets are reduced for the evening hours and they have extended the hours to 9:00PM. The Enchanted Doll Conference, Albuquerque, Mew Mexico, in July. The classes are starting to come on line. Still taking names of those that want to car pool & share rooms. Contact Marion if interested. The question of what to put into our library was brought up & was decided that we would get subscriptions to the following : Art Doll Quarterly, Soft Dolls & Animals & Crafters & Costuming for now. All of the members have doll making books and it was suggested that we bring in those we have and decide what are the best to put into the library. There are several places to purchase books & maybe we can use some of the coupons floating around to get them at a lower cost. Another thought was that since a lot of us have a lot of doll making books that we might think about finding videos. Not hard to do. These do not have to be done right away. You can down load & do at your own speed. Also by taking your time you can learn from those who went before you. SHOCK & AWE Edie showed her finished Prayer Pocket. This brought up about the beads, for legs having too big of a hole. Solution: find ones with smaller hole or fill hole with small beads. Sandy Serhant showed a pattern she purchased, in Cheyenne, by Barbara Willis for a corset & skirt. Marge Daboll had finished a Party Time Doll by the name of April Rain. The doll was done in silver with pompons for hair. Cheryl Netter had a great dragon she had done from an on-line class. The claws were made from fake nails cut down, with Primo clay teeth in purple & turquoise. Trimmed with beads. Anita Owens showed a wall hanging of Gum Babies made from a class taken several years ago. Karla Allen showed the Spirit Doll she made. Way to go Karla. Marion Bolson had her entry in the Party Doll Challenge and her entry in Quilting Arts, We All Have Baggage, purse. Roseanne Thompson had a small purple purse with a braided strap. On the front was a very cute face. Nicely done & thank you all. Gretchen Groth had more discount cards for Denver Fabrics. Sulky, Madiera threads & beads are 50% off . DDA patches will be available at the March meeting. Marion has some extra Faerie magazines and Doll Calendars. They are for sale. Money raised will go into the treasury. The Creative Festival was a great success. Thanks to everyone who helped and to those that entered the challenge. Prizes were given for every entry. This helps encourage people to continue entering our challenges. The club voted to spend $25 of the entry fee to ensure every entry got a prize. Marion is working on articles to submit for publication. Marion Bolson and Linda Benson will send notes to all the organizations/people that contributed prizes for the challenge. Kevin gave us space equal to 3 booths. It was a great way to display our work. We will talk to him about not scheduling multiple doll classes at the same time if possible. The challenge for the 2007 Creative Festival will be Enchanted Sea. We will start publicizing the event. Awards will be given for Best of Show Amateur/Professional, Peoples Choice, Most original, Strangest, Best use of Found Object, Best Story, Best Use of Color, Best interpretation of Theme. The entry fee will be $5. Will have a junior category for those 15 and under. We award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons. We will have a complimentary booth at the Denver Nation Quilt Festival put on by Mancuso Show Management, May 4-7, 2006. It will be held at the Denver Merchandise Mart. We cannot sell items in the booth, but we can display our work and give demonstrations. Marion Bolson and Barbara Piano held their first class at Prosperity Quilt Shop. Twenty-six people attended the first class. They are developing the class and plan to have it be a hands-on class. Everyone is encouraged to entry the Its Party Time Challenge put on by Doll Crafter & Costuming magazine. Images are due March 1st. See http://www.dollccmag.com/challenge.asp for details. Body Works 2 Exhibition begins March 10 and runs through July 23 at the Museum of Nature and Science. Anyone interested in going to the Enchanted Doll Artists Conference in Albuquerque, NM, July 20-23 contact Marion. Several people are planning to attend, carpooling and sharing rooms. Table Mountain Treasures Doll Show and Sale will be held March 17, 4pm to 7 pm and Saturday, March 18, 10am to 5pm. This is mostly collectible dolls. It is at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. 2006 Pueblo Quilt and Stitch Expo will be held March 31 and April 1st. Will ask Darline Smith if she can obtain a block of tickets to the show. About 8 people expressed interest in bringing Christine Shively to Denver to teach her crackle doll in August. She will be in Colorado then so there wont be a charge for her airfare. It would cost approximately $95 and be a two day class over the weekend. Welcome. Sandy Serhant reported that we have $647.60 in the bank. She also informed us that 90% of the club pays their dues in the first quarter. The club voted to have everyone pay the annual dues of $20 each January. For those members that paid dues in Nov and Dec of 2005, consider your 2006 dues paid. For those member that paid dues in Aug, Sep and Oct, your 2006 dues will be $5. For those that paid Jun, Jul, and Aug, your 2006 dues is $10. All others will pay $20. It is payable now. Checks should be made payable to Sandy Serhant. Questions regarding your dues should be directed to Sandy. Linda Farrelly sent out an updated members list. Please let her know if any corrections are needed. We have received entry fees for 30 dolls for the Enchanted Forest Challenge. If you cant bring your entry to the Merchandise Mart on Thursday, 2/2, between 3:30 and 6, please bring the doll to Linda Farrelly or Marion Bolsons house. Entries can also be mailed to Marion. Elinor peace bailey has agreed to judge the challenge. Marion has received prizes from Doll Crafting and Costuming magazine, Faerie magazine, Dollmakers Ink, Pamela of the Treasures of the Gypsy and Joggles for the challenge. Dolls should be picked up at the festival at 4 pm on Sunday, 2/5. Faerie magazine has asked for pictures of the challenge dolls. The ribbons for the challenge cost approximately $70. $150 was collected for the entry fees. The club voted to put the remainder of the money in the treasury. Anita Owens and Darline Smith agreed to help count the votes for the Peoples Choice on Sunday. Mancuso Show Management will give the club a free booth at their Denver National Quilt Festival in May. They have never been to Denver before. We can not sell items at the booth, but we plan to do demonstrations. Please contact Marion if you have something you could demonstrate. Barbara Piano and Marion Bolson begin their doll class at Prosperity Quilt shop in Boulder on February 11. It is $15 per month for 6 months. The first class is orientation, discussion on patterns, how to sew and stuff. The doll should be made by the March class, which will deal with hair and face. April and May will be on embellishments and June will be on how to display dolls. There will be show and tell at each class. Doll Crafter and Costuming is celebrating its new look with a challenge. Its Party Time! Challenge is due March 1. You just have to send a photo of your doll. Good exhibit for those wanting to learn anatomy and improve their skills at sculpting. Enchanted Doll Artists Conference will be held July 20-23 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. March 18 meeting Edie Petrock will help us make a cardboard frame for Japanese Braiding Kumihimo She will have kits for $2. Since she only has 13 kits, you may wish to bring your own supplies. Bring 4 different types of fibers (#3 pearl cotton, variegated is a good look, ribbon, metal cord) You need two of each and they must be twice as long as the desired finished length of the braid. Bring cardboard, such as the back of a cereal box, sketch pad, clothespin, something to punch a hole in the middle of the circle which will be 5 ½ to 6 inches in diameter, and tabs to hold fibers (like you get in the bakery to close bags. Marion proposed the idea of having a Doll Makers Co-op. We could sell items for doll makers at the various shows when they cant attend. The club would get a percentage for handling the booth. This is still under discussion. People felt we would need to be able to accept credit cards if we were selling for others. Marilyn Houston is teaching a class for the Colorado Springs club. Since they usually hold their classes in mid-week, we might be able to get her to teach a class here the following weekend and share in the transportation costs. Marion showed us the jeans Darline Smith beaded for her. Shari Woodstein brought several dolls. She had a gnome, Keeper of pets, Santa and elf. They were all miniatures. Edie Petrock showed us her contrasting curves jacket. She will be teaching the class at AAA Sewing. She also finished a doll started by her mother. It is an elinor peace bailey doll. Gage Evans brought her Enchanted Forest challenge doll Barbara Piano showed us a doll she made from a banana shape Cheryl Netter brought the prototype for her Enchanted Forest entry. The entries for our Mothers Play With Dolls Challenge were on display throughout the meeting. We all voted for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Barbara Pianos doll received the most votes, but she declined since she gave the prizes. Gretchen Groth, Anita Owens and Bonnie Roberton walked away with the honors for the challenge.
