October Denver Doll Artisans Meeting for October 20, 2007 Members that were present: I do not have the list so not sure who all was there. Sorry. Treasurers report. We have $1,564.77. Membership report. Marge has taken a leave from the club. Sandy will take over. DDA Patches. If you are a new member or already a member and need a name tag see Daelene Smith. Librarian report. It has been moved and seconded that the Librarian make a list of the Quilt books and post on-line. Then if there is one you wish to look at you can call or e-mail to have it brought to the next meeting. New Business: Linda Farrelly has decided to pursue other interests and can no longer attend our meetings. We all wish her well and much success. The only thing is we will need to find another meeting place. We will still meet at the clubhouse for November & December but them we need to be out. Several places were mentioned but nothing has been found yet. We will keep you posted when the place has been found. Don't forget to be working on the challenge for February "Mardi Gras" Challenge for the Creative Festival. Make note: the days have been changed. The dates are January 31st, February 1st and 2nd.2008. That is Thursday, Friday & Saturday. We need someone to handle to task of coordinating workers hours. So far we have Sandy, Anita, Donna, Stephanie & Linda B to work on Thursday with Marion working half day Thursday & Friday. We need workers for Friday & Saturday. We are not sure who will be doing the judging as yet. It has been decided that we will not be doing anything with The Denver Metaphysical Fair in March. If you wish to go to it the dates are March 14, 15, 16, 2008 at the Denver Merchandise Mart. There are two new bead stores. Alley Cats at 120th & Washington in the same mall as Walgreens & Soup n Salad. Beadnicks at 43rd & Stewart. One block from Tennyson. There will be a new get together in Albuquerque, N.M. starting next year. The dates are April 10-14, 2008 and is titled "Creations in Fiber". The cost for 3 days of classes is $190 and room price is $59 ($30 if you share a room). The teachers are Sherry Goshon, Nancy Gawron and Mary Tressler. This is less expensive than EDAC & might be a better time of year. There were nine entry's for the Enchanted Garden Challenge. The winners were Sandy, Gage & Linda. Each received a $20 gift certificate for Joggles. We are to vote in new members in December. Please be thinking of volunteering for a position. Marion has been president for 5 years and it is time for someone else to give it a try. We will need the following: President: run the meetings Vice president: run the meetings when president is out & help with events Secretary: take minutes of the meetings, type them to the computer to be sent on to members. Photographer: take pictures of shock n awe to be posted on the web site. Treasurer: keep track of our money. Marion said she would continue to handle that unless someone else would like to it, we can add you to the signature card. Membership: keep track of membership information. Class/Program Chairperson: Come up with ideas for classes we might want to host and work with membership to come up with programs for monthly meetings. A note of interest: The Annual Fiber Arts Sale is this week-end. It runs from Thursday, October 25th 5PM to 8PM Friday, October 26th 10AM to 8PM Saturday, October 27th 10AM to5PM Creative, original textile gifts to wear and for the home. This is put on by the Rocky Mountain Weavers Guild at 1000 Englewood Parkway Englewood Civic Center in the Community Room 2nd floor. Check with www.rmweaversguild,org for more information. It ended up we did not have a booth. Wool Market was June 16th & 17th. Be thinking about having a booth at the Metaphysical Fair next year, March 2008. The June meeting Marion Showed us how to modify our pancake doll. Cutting body parts, apart to make it more movable. It was decided that there would not be a meeting in July. There was a mention of having a field trip to Beyond Beadery in Rollinsville. Sandy was to set up with Beyond Beadery for us to go up August 18th. It was also mentioned that the August 18th meeting would be dressing our doll. The September meeting was to be doing armatures but the it was decided that we would meet at the Bead Expo. Edie , a necklace from a kit from Bead Parlor.com. Sandi went to a craft show in Littleton and bought an Elf for $50.00. The woman said she had made it. It stuck Sandi as not quite right and when she turned it over later she found a sticker on the foot Made in China, She didn't care as it is very different. Suzzanne, story telling lavender doll. Knitted shawl & booties, and two outfits she made for her Granddaughters. Americana pillow, doll for a friend of hers she is staying with and a Sibouri pleating jacket. Colleen, her pancake doll. Karla. Several Spirit dolls she sells. Chloe, a book on Marbling on Fabric. Marion brought some doll fabric she bought from Barb Willis and was selling for $8.00 a yard. No new members Marion opened the meeting, it was called to order at 1.10pm Treasury Report: $1776.70 in treasury Membership: Please let Marge know of any change to email address. A new form is now available for new members to complete or to update your information. New members please let Darline know if you have not received you name patch Librarian Report: Marion showed a new book on polymer clay doll making, because of it's high value and rarity, it will be available on request only and borrowers will be required to leave a deposit. Colleen asks those who have books that have been checked out for a long time to please return them. The Bead Bazaar is April 28th, National Quilt Show- can anybody volunteer to work at our booth during the show, if you work four hours you will have free entry to show. Please call Darlene to volunteer 303 335 5245 Doll and Bear Expo, June 24th voted to purchase booth space at a cost of $89.00. The space will be used to sell dolls and doll related items of the members. It will be held at the Ramada Plaza hotel, located at 120th and I-25. The theme has been expanded to cover all types of dolls and bears Estes Park Wool Market is June 16th and June 17th in Estes Park, classes will be held two days before, check it out on Google Enchanted Doll Artist Conference is July 20th to July 22nd $475 includes 4 nights hotel per person with two people per room and three days of classes Challenge reminder: September: Enchanted Garden January: Enchanted Mardi Gras If you have dolls to display at the Mancuso Quilt Show please contact Marion. Regular Members: Marion Bolson, Cheryl Netter, Janet Greenwood, Linda Farrelly, Roseanne Thompson, Linda Benson, Colleen Bammann, Darleen Smith, Karla Allen, Donna Cohen, Gage Evans, Sandy Serhant, Wendy Lopez, Marge Daboll, and Anita Owens. Sorry for minutes taking so long. I'll do better. Meeting was called to order at 1:10P.M. For those members that are new please see Darlene Smith for your name badge. She will make it in the colors of your choice. Treasury Report: We currently have $1,547.47. Linda Farrelly and Marion Bolson donated 10% of their sales from the Creative Festival to the club. After buying ribbons the club made $147.47 from the Festival and the Challenge. Membership: We now have 20 paid members. Dues are $20.00 and are due January of each year. Make out checks to Marion Bolson. See Marge for New Member Form, so we can add your info to our list of members. Marion sent a list around of those who are paid. If your name was NOT on the list you are not paid up to date. The question was brought up about removing the names from the e-mail list of those that are not paid members. Not sure what was decided. Librarians: What to know if it is necessary to bring all of the books every time. Namely the polymer clay and quilting books. It was voted on and passed that we may check out only 3 books at a time and may borrow them for two months only. If you need a book for longer you will need to check out again. That way more people will have a chance to borrow a book. This also goes for the patterns too. Any one who has had books or patterns for more that 2 months will be notified by our Great Librarians, Colleen and Karla. They are also looking into an easier mode of transporting the library. Any and all ideas will be considered. Thanks to everyone who worked the Festival. We could not have made it without you. Those who have not helped out at the Festival are missing a great experience. Remember there is another Festival coming up in May. We have been offered a booth for free again. We can not sell but we can get the word out about our club. Last year we had a problem getting workers. A list was sent around to see who can or will help work the booth. If we can not get enough to work we will have to pass and we may not be offered a booth again. Keep it in mind. Back to the library. Gage works at the Tattered Book Cover and can get 30% off if we need books. Once more thank you for your help at the Festival and a Very Special Thank You to elinor peace bailey for the Judging again this year. She has said that she will not be here next year. We will miss her greatly. There is a small chance that we may be able to have Patty Culea next year to do the judging. We talked about EDAC in July in Albuquerque, New Mexico last year and the one coming up this year. The question was brought up about keeping our subscription to Doll Crafter & Costuming and was put on the back burner again. We get Art Doll Quarterly for our library. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US - We are four years old and we got to have cake & ice cream. If you were not here ---- it was great. Do not have a closing time for the meeting as we talked of business through Shock 'n Awe. Gage showed an Around the Shoulders Shawl that she had woven. Gage is a member of the Weavers Guild and does beautiful work. She also mentioned the Rose Weaving Gallery & Studio 7508 Grandview Ave. Arvada, CO 80002. You can try out all sorts of things. Gage said they are thinking about have a doll contest. Another place Gage said is worth checking out is Spices Old Wadsworth 53rd past Lowell. Anita Showed her Clown Fish "Giacco" and his Octupi on a Stick. He won Most Original" in the Enchanted Sea Challenge. This brought us to next years challenge. Linda Benson had a long list of "Enchanted" thyme's.Sent a list around to vote on and it looked like Mardi Gras won for the Festival Challenge in Feb 2008 and Enchanted Garden for the club challenge for September 2007. Donna showed some rubbings she had done on fabric. Check on line for the Shiva paints they are cheaper. Also showed a necklace/ earring set she had made. Linda F. showed one of the socks she had knitted. Linda is also published again. Check out her doll in the new Art Doll Quarterly. Suzzanne and Colleen showed Topsy-turvy dolls they had made in a class. Colleen also showed a necklace she had made. Karla showed a doll she had made in one afternoon. Sandy showed the wall hanging doll she made for a friend( the friend may not get it back) Also she showed her entry in to the Enchanted Sea Challenge. If you get a chance take a good look at it its great. Wendy made a Hippy from one of Patty Culea patterns. She made it between the Festival and the meeting. That's what - two weeks ? Wow. It is great to have so many talented new members. Marge donated a book to the library on Knitted Flowers Marion Showed her Cocoon Purse and Needle Case. Her purse won 1st place at the Rocky Mountain Bead contest. Marion also is giving a class in making the cocoon heads and a purse , needle case or amulet on Saturday the 11th. March meeting we will be working on our dolls again. This time coloring and painting faces. Voted on paying bills. Passed. The subject of subscribing to Doll Crafter & Costuming was brought up. Was it worth spending the money for. It comes up for renewal in May 007, The subject was postponed till there were more members present. Marge has membership forms for those who need them. Dues are due now. The amount is the same $20.00 a year. To run from January thru December. Make checks out to Marion Bolson. Linda mentioned that our Domain Dues are due. $45.00 for a year. Was voted to pay this. Check to be made out to Linda Farrelly. Librarian Report: If it was necessary to bring all of the Quilting and Polymer Clay books every week. If not there will be a list of those books in the library and if wanted will be brought to the next meeting. Will bring up again when there are more members to decide. There are still some books out since June. The Librarians will send a note to the people/person to please bring back. It was decided by those at the meeting that from now on, please only check out 3 books at a time and for only 2 months. Thank you for every ones cooperation. We are still looking for a better way to transport the library. All good ideas will be welcome. Creative Festival in two weeks. Have almost all spots filled. Linda will send out a notice of were there is still help needed. Please find time. Bring as many dolls for show as possible. The Challenge dolls are to be at the booth between 4:00 & 6:00 P.M. Thursday. elinor peace baily will be judging for us again. If you wish to sell items be sure they are clearly marked with name and price, for those working the booth. Anita: Carry-all and three pancake dolls Audrey: Pancake doll body that was preprinted, pattern by Garrco Originals and a photo album of things she had made for Children & Grandchildren. Janice: Bear. Srephanie: Doll head with hair made from the ends of loom weaving. Voting was done on the Patti Cuela doll challenge. It was an easy vote. There was only three entries. Doll One received 7 First Place votes and two 3rd place votes. Doll Two received 7 Second Place votes. 1 First Place and 1third Place vote. Doll Three received 1 First place vote, 2 Second place votes and 6 Third Place votes. First Place went to doll One made by Marion Bolson. Second Place went to doll Two made by Anita Owens Third Place went to doll Three made by Anita Owens. The rest of the day was spent making pancake dolls from a pattern Linda passed out.
