Meet Jon and Lois Foyt

Jon and Lois Foyt -- founders of Algonquin West Novelist Group -- host frequent literary salons in their historic adobe home in Santa Fe. This husband-wife team collaborate in writing novels with characters as colorful and multicultural as the Southwest itself. Outdoor enthusiasts and amateur archaeologists, they have explored first hand the Lands of Enchantment to bring you stories that ignite the magic, the emotions, and the legacies of the region.

    D. H. Lawrence said that the novel is the highest form of art. In their critically acclaimed body of work the Foyts have always sought the summit of literary landscapes.

Their first three novels were signed by the couple. But they got tired of answering questions at book readings/signings about how a husband and wife could possibly write together, and so they wrote Four Corners under the nom de plume of Ruth Clapsaddle-Counts. This name is a composite of Lois' great-great Chippewa grandmother and Jon's great-great pioneer grandmother whose journals narrate her travels down the Santa Fe Trail in a Conestoga wagon. Their fifth novel, Painted Waters, is written under the penname of Loisette. Why? Because they love the name. They have adapted the novel into a screenplay.

They have also written a short story, Ocotillo Omen, which has been published in Italian and English in an Italian literary magazine.

Jon and Lois' sixth novel, Red Willow Brew, written under the penname of Loisette, is the first electronically-published book to be nominated for the National Book Award in Fiction. It's a Taos, New Mexico story about a retired Los Alamos physicist and a German immigrant artist who ski into an unmapped territory of love, literature, and art.

Lois is a graduate of Stanford University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in the Social Sciences. She was formerly president of California-based Real Estate Arts, Inc. Jon is also a Stanford graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and an MBA in Banking. He is a former international banker, and a distance runner.
