Aslan's How
Narnia Fan Poetry

"The lion was pacing to and fro about that empty land and singing a new song. It was softer and more lilting than the song by which he had called up the stars and the sun; a gentle, rippling music. And as he walked and sang, the valley grew green with grass"

"Polly was finding the song more and more interesting because she thought she was beginning to see the conection between the music and the things that were happening. When a line of dark firs sprang up on a ridge about a hundred yards away she felt they were conected with a series of deep, prolongued notes which the lion had sung a second before. And when he burst into a rapid series of lighter notes she was not surprised to see primroses suddenly appearing in every direction"

C.S.Lewis was a great man and the quote I pasted to this page is because I feel that as artists ~ whether we are drawing, painting, singing,
writing, dancing or anything else ~ we do what Aslan did when calling Narnia to life; we create a vivid picture for our observers to enjoy! That's what I want you to do; enjoy!

Invitation *9*
By Peter

Why wait thee upon the threshold
If thou so disire to see
All that lies beyond the wardrobe
When Adventure beckons thee?
Then I bid thee now to enter
And to see the world within.
Wait thee for an invitation?
Then I welcome thee; Come in!

Faithless *8*
By Loraulin
(as Edmund)

I feel within me a deep knot of cold
Grasping at my heart
I rip
I know that I have wronged the world
But I deny it
And continue on
"It was not your fault. You needn't dispair."
But I have become my own enemy
A betrayer
And so betrayed
I have been faithless...

In the Spring *7*
By Loraulin

In the spring...
When the trees are all in bloom
With blossoms swaying
I sit beneath their boughs and sigh
How sweet the lilting melody the leaves are playing
How camly do they utter secrets hidden
Down to me.
And I...
I sing with them their songs of bursting glory
And bask away the day beneath their shade
For spring was meant for merriment and laughter
But I can not make the laughs the trees have made
So I enjoy it here, in merriment, beneath their silent boughs
In Narnia in spring.

His Breath *6*
By Susans Maid

I remember the first time I saw him
The symbol of Narnia's great faith
I remember the way that I felt on that day
When I met with the King face to face

And it wasn't his eyes I remember so well
Though they pierced me with fiery gaze
And it wasn't his teeth bared and sharp as a knife
And it wasn't his head, highly raised.

And it wasn't the paws or the great, fearsome claws
Or the mane in magnificent folds
But it was his breath I remember well yet
And the way that it turned me so bold.

I remember my fear when he first padded near
On those great velvet paws he did tread,
How I quivered and shook just as soon as he looked,
How the gaze of his eyes turned my head!

But with only his breath were my fears wiped away
And replacing them courage so strong
That I felt with just sword and with only myself
I could face a whole army head on!

He never once spoke as he stared at me there
But I knew what instructions he gave
For the meaning was clear, in my mind I could hear
Have courage, small one, and be brave

Then it was he was gone and with nary a trace
Cept the paw prints laid deep in the earth
And there it turned green as I never have seen
Brightly colored with plants of new birth.

Since then Ive remembered that day oh so well
And I savor its memory sweet.
I can still feel his breath as it gracefully fell
And I still see the signs of his feet.

The Secret Keepers *5*
By Narnian-dwarf

Green are the trees in the summer
And green is the grass
Beneath the shade I walk and think
Of memories past
And if only the trees could talk!

Surely they would tell me of the ancient days
The times of valor, honor, of bold stands raised!
Surely they would speak to me of times before
But they stay silent as I knock upon their door

Trees! Is it that you can't hear me-
My longing cry?
Or is it that you simply turn away-
My voice deny?
Or is it that you can not speak for sorrows past

Only they never stifle my cries nor answer me
Nor do they seem to care or try to heed my plea
As ancient sentinels, their secrets carefully hold
Locking tight beneath their height, their secrets old.
And never do they slip the key to me below
But mock me with their silent, wind blown voices low
They laugh with branches rattling softly in the breeze
And stare at me, the Secret Keepers, the silent trees.

Deep Magic Before the Dawn of Time *4*
By Susans Maid

It was the Deep Magic that laid the spell,
That killed innocents,
That greatness did fell,
It was the deep magic that played with dark flame
And killed him upon the stone table

It was the Deep Magic before Times dawn
That shattered the evil
And righted the wrong,
Turning death backwards, the Lion to wake
And cracking the spells of the table.

Farewell to Shadow Lands *3*
by Queen Lucy

Farewell to all the shadowed lands
Farewell old trees and skies
Farewell the old familliar hills
And pain of sad goodbyes!
Farewell the sea, but well met sun
Now new in day's rebirth
Hale God, Hale Aslan, night is done
This is a brand new earth!

The Lion's Sacrifice *2*
by Arlune

He lay cold upon the table when they came to him
The tattered remnant of a mighty King,
The shards of once a noble beast were laying there
Upon the stone of grey eternety.
Thier faces swept with tears, the two girls came to him
And knelt before him, crying tears like rain
How cold his paws; His once bright eyes were shadow-dim.
As they looked down at his bonds they felt great pain.
It seemed the witch had given such a mighty blow
To take the Lion's life with one quick stroke,
But it was not her doing that he lay there dead.
By his own choice it was his body broke
All for another life that ballanced on a knife:
A boy who so unwarrily did play
With 'fire', or in this case, played with fridged ice.
It was for him the Lion died that day.

To save a life and so protect the future,
For Love of one who, merciless, betrayed
The Lion layed his life down on an alter
And shed his blood, the sinner's price to pay.

The Tale of the Last King *1*
by Arlune

He thought he'd seen them
all of them
lying dead outside the door
He'd seen the arrows pierce their sides
Had felt the tears flow as he cried
to know they'd be no more
And as he pressed against the stable
he felt his rage arise
THEY could not get away with killing
Inocent blood of children spilling
He grabbed the ape and jumped inside!
And there they were, upon the green
all fresh and newly clothed
He felt ashamed just as he was
in tattered robes and caked with blood
and weary head he bowed
to find that he was garbed alike

But these things were just minore to what he saw next

The lion was there, the King of Kings
At death and end he came
So gold his main, so soft his paw
The kings and queens all stood in awe
He walked there tame, untame
And as he raised his golden head
the stable door flew out
The land was darker than the night
All creatures out there fled in fright
He stood there with no doubt
And called them
All the creatures came
they had not any choise
They walked up to him, loving him
Or coming to him hating him
and those all lost their voice
But those who loved him passed him by
with head held high
And knowing that he loved them too

And then the wonder of all wonders

There they came
Those that were dead
Or wounded fatally
They came and bowed before their king
Lifted their heads as if to sing
of sky and grass and tree!
This new world that they knew was home
the other was just shadowed
"Come further up and further in!"
They heard the lion's roar
All sorrows that there had once been,
they now were never more!
And sing! the meeting of old friends!
From years past to a journey's end
We come at last! This is our home!
Farewell to what before was known!
