Those of you who know me know that I am an avid collector of quotes. My collection, which began about eight years ago, will slowly make its' way onto this page once I figure out how to do that!
Here are a few to get you started:
"The reality of the other person is not in what he reveals to you, but in what he cannot reveal to you. Therefore, if you would understand him, listen not to what he says, but rather to what he does not say."
"Persistence... Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."
"There is no way to peace. The way is peace."
"A friend is one to whom one may pour out all the contents of one's heart, chaff and grain together, knowing that the gentlest hands will take and sift it, keep what is worth keeping, and with a breath of kindness, blow the rest away."
--Old Arab saying
"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view."
--Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird
"In all of us there is a hunger, marrow deep, to know our heritage. To know who we are and where we have come from. Without this enriching knowledge, there is a hollow yearning. No matter what our attainments in life, there is the most disquieting loneliness."
--Alex Haley, Roots
"On the day you were born, you cried and the rest of the world was happy. Live your life so that when you die, you're happy and the rest of the world will cry."
"In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life. It goes on."
"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away."
--Henry David Thoreau
