In 1996 the Whitefish (Montana) Rifle and Pistol Club formed an affiliation with the Williamsport Original Pennsylvania 1000 Yard Benchrest Club to conduct 1000 Yard matches. Early in 1998 the Northwest 1000 Yard Benchrest Association was formed. Its' purpose; to promote and conduct 1000 yard benchrest competition, in affiliation with the Original Pennsylvania 1000 Yard Benchrest Club.
All matches are held in Missoula, Montana, at the Deep Creek Rifle Range. The club members are continually updating the 1000 Yard Range, and it is now one of the best long distance shooting ranges in the country.
The Club holds 10 shoots per year (5 weekends) that count towards the 6 and 10 shot aggregate for the year. One of these is the Championship Shoot held in August, with prizes worth more than $20,000.
NEW RULES FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOOT: Guns from IBS and NBRSA will be allowed to shoot in the 16 1/2 and Heavy Gun Classes. All participants in the Championship Shoot must be members of the Northwest 1000 Yard Club. Membership dues are $30.00 per year and payable at the shoot.
Participation in the club continues to grow, and our members hold several 1000 Yard World Records for group, score and aggregrates of both.
