Melaleuca Products Guest speakers this month were consultants from the direct marketing company Melaleuca. For those not familiar with Meleulca and their products, I highly recommend their excellent web site at: www.melaleuca.com In their own words: Melaleuca, The Wellness Company is an international manufacturer and marketer of unique health, home, and personal care products. Our company was founded in 1985, and our name is taken from Melaleuca Alternifolia that produces a naturally powerful essential oil. This oil is used in many of Melaleuca's health care, pharmaceutical, personal care, and home care products. Melaleuca is committed to helping families around the world find wellness. . . Every day we carry out our mission of "Enhancing the lives of those we touch" by bringing exceptional products and wellness ideas to the people who need it most: your family.
Melaleuca offers a broad range of products in five main categories: For Your Health - Vitamins & Nutritional Supplements For Your Body - Bar soaps, toothpaste and shampoo For Your Home - Cleaning and laundry products For Your Beauty - Cosmetics and skin care For Your Medicine Cabinet - Topical lotions and oils
Watch-outs of direct marketing Unfortunately, much of the presentation was spent attacking the safety of other commercial home care products. The information presented was purposely misleading and at times blatantly false. Other consumer product companies are ethical and they do not market products with disregard for customer safety. Given the presentation's emphasis on safety it should have been noted that tea tree oil, including Melaleuca oil, is poisonous if ingested and should only be used topically. This information was obviously omitted from the presentation. In fairness though, I want to be clear: Melaleuca products are not dangerous poisons, never to be brought into your home. It does mean that accidental ingestion, especially of the undiluted oil, should be safeguarded against especially in the case of children. Be judicious. The presentation was frankly a disappointment, given that the quality of Melaleuca's products can easily stand on their own merit. Stick to the testimonials of how well the products work - the ones we have tried do.
