Provides crisis counseling and intervention services to senior citizens who are suffering from abuse, neglect or exploitation. Clients are made aware of alternative courses of action and referred to other services.

The Public Guardian program provides a court-appointed guardian for individuals, who because of incompetence or incapacity cannot manage their personal or financial affairs, or who lack family or friends willing and able to help.
Representative Payee services are offered for clients deemed incapable of managing their monthly benefit checks and who have no suitable representative to act on their behalf. Services include money management and establishment of a support network for the provision of food, shelter, social and medical needs.

COMMUNITY HOME-BASED INITIATIVES PROGRAM (CHIP)

Provides alternative services to meet the needs of the senior who is at risk of institutionalization. Services are available for income eligible individuals age 66 and older.

The Ombudsman serves as an advocate to protect the rights of the elderly residing in Long Term Care facilities. Responsibilities include investigating and resolving complaints made by or on behalf of residents of nursing homes and group care facilities which have not been resolved satisfactorily by the staff of these facilities.

The Community Ombudsman provides advocacy and assistance to seniors living in the community. Responsibilities include: investigating complaints, educating seniors about their rights, providing information and referral services and identifying and seeking remedies to gaps in facility, government or community services.
