The nettlesome R6501Q in situ, sort-of...

R5601Q QUIL

Closeup of the QUIL (QUad InLine) board

The QUIL's solder-side.

While this board does function,
the project was aborted due to:

1.) Fragility of MPU component:
The pins bend and break-off
too easily, and the built-in
PIA ports are too sensitive
to ESD or brief over-current
conditions.

2.) Lack of support by my cohorts:
They simply were not interested
(see above).

3.) Difficulties procuring the R6501Q
and suitable sockets:
We could only get solder-pulled
chips which were often damaged
beyond usefulness. The sockets
were a huge pain in the butt to
breadboard because of the 0.05"
offset pins (notice the two slots
Dremeled into the perf board).
