Historical Rabbit

Through the ages, the rabbit has served man and intrigued man. It has supplied man with meat, furs, and enjoyment. We find rabbit remains in caves and drawing of rabbits on cave walls. The Native Americans have a long oral history of tales of the mischieveous rabbit, as well as using them for food, their fur for clothing and decorations, and their bones for tools and decorations. Today the domestic rabbit is popular as a backyard meat source, as well as a show animal, and as a pet. They are also raised commerically for meat, furs, and wool. But then they are also popular characters in childrens books and cartoons. The Rabbit - the Multipurpose animal.

The Domestic Rabbit

All domestic rabbits come from the European Wild Rabbit. In America, the domestic rabbit was brought over on ships along with other domestic livestock, like chickens, to help early pioneers to survive. But the big influx of rabbits came in the early 1900, when there was a boom in interest in rabbits. At that time Beligium Hares were selling at $100.00 each.

different rabbit objects

Here are some of my rabbit collection. I have an Old Bunny Mask. Then a Thumper Cookie Jar from Walt Disney's Bambi. There is also a wooden carved rabbit done in the style of Alice in Wonderland.
Then there is Bugs Bunny, a what not box and a remote control holder. Also there is a Peter Rabbit book. Another TV rabbit is the Energizer Rabbit. Then laying in front is some of the jewlery I have gotten. Some were bought at an Indian Pow Wow, some at rabbit shows, some at ARBA conventions, flea markets, malls. I am always on the look-out for more rabbit things.
