Other Improvements

A lot of other updates were needed.

Dana 60

I needed a good rear end for Max. Instead of spending money upgrading the marginal old 8 3/4 with difficult two-piece axles, I opted for a narrowed Dana 60 with Powerlock and 3.73 gears.

Aluminum Radiator

Brackets were fabricated to mount a cross-flow aluminum radiator.

My son fabricated an aluminum overflow tank for me.

63 Lens

The turn-signal lenses needed replacement but I found the originals excessively expensive. I made my own out of Lexan.

Disk Brake

I also elected to add rear disk brakes.

Disk Brake

Stock front drums were replaced by huge 12" disk brakes.

I added the largest transmission cooler I could find. I knew the Dynamic 9 1/2" converter would generate a lot of heat.

The old, cracked dash pad was recovered with new material.

The sagging rear springs were replaced by new ESPO units relocated 1/2" inboard to gain tire clearance. The front torsion bars were replaced with heavier .960" bars and the suspension and steering were upgraded with all new pieces.

A fiberglass "Max Wedge" hoodscoop was added, the hood and scoop painted and a set of "Torque Thrust" type wheels were added. Tires are Yokohama 275 x 60 R15's on 8 1/2" rears and 225 x 70 R15's on 7" fronts.

The "Max Wedge" hood scoop is a Sled City fiberglass replica.
