T-GRRR's History T-GRRR came into my world in the fall of 1973. He was rough.. VERY rough but a Sunbeam Tiger that I could afford. The previous owner told me that the car had been in an end-over-end accident. After a close examination, I believe that is true. Some repairs had been made but the car was still incredibly rough. The first round of repairs left the car looking better but still in need of improvement. Some innovation to fill in the blanks (like the Fiat spoiler) was easier and less expensive than replacing the missing or damaged sheet metal but the 14 inch chrome wheels with welded-in knock-off centers eventually had to be replaced.
So-called "Track Days" at Portland International Raceway were always fun but the little 260 cu. in. motor would run out of breath half way down the straight with the 3.73 gears and short 20" tall race tires. I had a newly rebuilt 302 at home so figured if it blew up, no big deal. Despite the repeated max RPM runs for nearly the full length of the straight the little 260 refused to die. I finally pulled it out and gave it away. |
