How Can I Participate?
All you really need is "half a mind" and a good sense of humor. You should have already become familiar with the running part. Call Eugene Hasher (the hotline #) to find out the location of the next scheduled event, who the hares are, and special instructions if there are any. Pack up a "dry bag". This is any bag that will protect and carry a change of clothes for after the run. This is important if you want to keep warm and dry once the run has been completed.
Go to the Hash starting location (get there about 10 minutes early). Check around for the hares or which vehicle will be used to carry the dry bags to the finish area (a secret location). Place your dry bag in that vehicle. Once you arrive at the end of the run, you will be directed to your bag. If this is your first hash run, it will be free of charge. After that, $3.00 per person per event, or $20.00 per quarter year, or $30.00 for couples per quarter year.
Be sure to have someone explain the flour markings to you before you depart on the run. Sometimes this will be done for several people in a "chalk talk", a quick visual course on trail markings just for your benefit.
Enjoy yourself while on the course. Most of the time, there will be a refreshment stop while on the course. When you make it to the end, there will be food and refreshments followed by an awards party complete with songs and jokes.
If the Hash finishes at a different location from the start (usually), arrangements are made to return everyone back to their vehicles at the start once the event is over. Hopefully we will see you again! Mission
