The midi is the hymn" The Old Rugged Cross". Grandma once told me that this was her favorite hymn from Sunday School.

This site is dedicated to my grandmother, Lida, "Oretha", Dorvilla, LaRue Markle Jones Rhome.
1905-1969

Some families know a great deal about their roots; others know very little ( I knew very little). This site is an attempt to record what I've learned about our family history. In these modern times, families tend to be scattered and tend to not know their family history.
Getting to know mine has been very enlightening.

On this page I'll provide a little information about who I am and what inspired me to do this research. Most of this information was obtained from talking to living relatives and from researching public records. In the course of doing this research, I've discovered that I have many more relatives than I ever thought possible! Cousins all over the place.

This is a work in progress, so please contact me if you have any information that might help round out the picture.

I wish my grandmother could have know something about her ancestors, I hope she is watching over me and learning right along with me. The Markles were a prominent family in the history of Pennsylvania.

I want to thank all my Markle "cousins" for all the help and information they have provided.

This is (from left) my grandmother, Oretha Markle Jones, her niece, Virginia Hoak and her sister, Susie Markle Hoak.

The picture above is (from left), my grandmother, Oretha Markle Jones, her niece, Virginia Hoak and her sister Susie Markle Hoak. The picture was taken in the early 1940's at Kennywood Amusement Park, Allegheny County,Pa.

The picture below is my great grandmother, Eliza Rothermel Markle.
Eliza died from Tuberculosis. After alot of research Cousin Donna finally found Eliza'a death record. Eliza died at Woodville Tuberculosis Hospital and was buried on the hospital grounds.Woodville was located in Collier Township, Allegheny County,Pa. Her daughter Lucetta Markle died at the same hospital from TB in 1915, also buried on hospital grounds. Donna also found Lucetta's death record.

The back of the picture is dated 1885.

Getting this picture somehow brought me closer to my great grandmother. Putting faces to names is a wonderful feeling when you're doing your family history. In Eliza's face, I can see my grandmother and her children, especially Cousin Donna's mother.
