V8 Swap

This page is dedicated to my V8 swap I did over Christmas in 2001.

I started by cleaning up the motor which came from a 86 Chevy 1/2ton pickup. The motor is a 350 cubic inch V8 with 4 bolt maines. The exhaust manifolds are from a '80 Chevy Caprice. The motor mounts are the design from the JTR S10 V8 Swap Manual. The transmission that I used was a NV3500 from a '92 S10 4x4.

Instead of buying a $250 oil pan to clear the front differential I made my own by welding part of the 2.8L V6 pan to the V8 pan. When I made the oil pan The truck still had the IFS. It is not needed with the solid axle in front.

To Avoid extensive driveshaft modifications I only moved the engine back 1/2". This along with using a clutch fan for cooling required the radiator to be moved forward in the core support. Also the large radiator I used required that the core support to be "opened up" more.

These two plates were made to move the rear axle back 1/2" They are installed between the leaf springs and the axle and basically just offset the spring pin. This was done so that the rear driveshaft would not have to be shortened.

This radiator (pictured below) did not cool enough during highway driving. I have since swapped the radiator for a BE-COOL radiator which has solved the problem.

Once all of the modifications were completed to the engine compartment it was time to finally sit the motor down in there.

And here is the finished product. It looks almost completely stock.
